    Places I've been
Northville, MI (Hometown), Love traveling to Mexico, some of my most memorable trips have been to Merida, Oaxaca, and Cancun. I like to visit archaeological zonas and I love Spanish colonial architecture.

Travel to Canada to visit my Scottish families. Love Toronto and Ohsweken (Six Nations). Stratford is also a great place for both Shakespearean plays, but more so the shopping and galleries.

I have cruised all over the Caribbean. My favorites were San Juan, Puerto Rico and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I loved the Spanish Colonial Old Towns for their ambiance and entertainment. I got to practice my Spanish too.

Like the west, especially South Dakota (Black Hills & Badlands). Been to San Francisco (China Town, Japanese Cultural Center, and the Galleries) - loved going out, by bus, to the Botanical Gardens and the Redwood Forests. Loved Los Angeles (Disneyland), and San Diego (Sea World) in the winter ... walked all over to various sites.

Loved New Hampshire and Vermont, especially the Von Trapps. This was when Maria was still alive and I met her. A wonderful person, and their torte selection in their restaurant - Aye Yi Yi - a chocoholics dream come true.

Most of these travels were before 1993. Since then my only travels have been by plane to Tampa, Florida in order to help my husband's parents. Meanwhile, closer to home I have been helping my own parents. They have all passed away now except my mother (Age 91).

    About Me

As an artist myself, I greatly admire the works of other artists.

    In Memoriam

    1.  The Late Frank Howell (1937-1997) - Frank was a poet and writer and taught art at both the high-school and the college level.

His paintings were done in his studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  His paintings are featured in DANCING MOONS, SHAMAN'S CIRCLE, and SPIRIT WALKER, co-authored with Nancy Wood, who also lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  These books are published by Delecorte Press.

    2.  The Late Rudolph Carl Gorman (1931-2005):

R.C. GORMAN was a master of three mediums - drawing, painting, and sculpting. In 1958, he received the first scholarship ever given by the Navajo tribe for study outside the United States.

He attended Mexico City College for a brief time, and this exposure caused a change in the direction of his art.

Gorman was legendary for his drawings, paintings and sculptures of colorful, blanketed, generously sized women. Gorman was quoted as stating, “I revere women…they are my greatest inspiration.”

His private celebrity collectors include Erma Bombeck, Former Senator Barry Goldwater, David Hartman, Martha Hyer, Lee Marvin, Gregory Peck, and Ruth Warwick.

I have a print of R.C. Gorman's Chili Peppers hanging in my kitchen.  I have a book of his works as well.  R.C. worked out of Taos, New Mexico.

R.C. Gorman died of pneumonia on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at 12:20 pm MST, after a lengthy illness.  A rosary was held on Sunday, November 6th and his funeral was on Monday, November 7th at 10am in Taos, New Mexico. He was buried in the cemetery on his property near his home in Taos.

Those of us who knew him, will always remember his humor, his personality and his beautiful artwork.

My only regret is that I never got to go to his gallery openings, even though I had numerous invitations.  I was too involved in eldercare to stray far from home.

    3.  The late Allan Houser (1915-1994) was a painter, sculptor, and teacher.

In 1992, President George Bush awarded Allan the National Medal for the Arts.  Houser's first breakthrough was when his art was selected to be featured in New York's World Fair, in 1936.  After this he was commissioned to do a mural for the Department of the Interior Building in Washington, D.C. (1938).

Allan Houser's paintings have been featured in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Art Institute of Chicago.  In 1948, he completed his first sculpture, which was commissioned for the Haskell School, in Lawrence Kansas.

After teaching for 25-years, in 1979,  Allan was Artist in residence at Dartmouth College. In 1993, he received the Prix de West from the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.  In 1993, a permanent sculpture garden was dedicated to him at the Institute of American Indian Arts Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  Shiortly after, in 1994, Allan Houser passed into the Spirit World.

    Mohawks [Kanien'Kahaka] :

"The People of the Spark" in English. The name "Mohawk" may have been given to the Kanien'Kahaka by the Micmac, while the French dubbed them "Iroquois" and "Agniers." The Mohawks are the Guardian of the Eastern Gates.

Before the whiteman, the Mohawk lived in south western Quebec along the St. Lawrence River, in the Great Lakes region, and further south in the vast territory that is now the United States. They were in conflict among themselves, and in the spirit of wisdom and brotherhood they established the Iroquois Confederacy. The tribes in this Confederacy were the Oneida, Seneca, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Mohawk. Later they added the Tuscarora.

They were hunters, fishers, farmers, and traders.
