History
Places I've been
New Bern, NC (Hometown), Have visited most states east of the Mississippi and nine or ten on the western side. Once drove across country from LA to North Carolina. It took about a week. That was a nice trip. My wife and I love Times Square and the theatre district of NYC and return there often...when the time allows. So when I'm not working on my next book or have my nose in a good book that I'm reading, I'm watching the clock...waiting for the right time for us to take off again.........

About Me
Most of the day, I hide away in an upstairs chamber hammering on my next suspense thiller. Hope to have The Code Breaker's Wife ready for marketing in the fall. My first published novel, My Sister's Keeper, was published in May, 2007, and has surprised us all with its national and international sales.

My Sister's Keeper is a riveting suspense thriller that not only explores the special bond between a brother and a sister, but also the troubled relationships between a man and his father and a man and himself. When Richard Baimbridge's sister is brutally attacked and crippled while investigating the rape of a 13-year-old for a newspaper, he rushes back to his coastal hometown of Wilmington, NC, to assist with her recovery and comes face to face with his tormented past and a dark family secret. Fighting to stay above the flood of childhood trauma, he serves as his sister's legs and is drawn into the dark underside of this quiet coastal community where he, himself, becomes the primary suspect in the murders of Wilmington's young girls. Promotional video can be viewed at the Bill Benners website.
"Bill Benners is a fresh and welcomed new voice in crime fiction. My Sister's Keeper is a compelling and original psychological thriller. Awesome, powder-keg suspense!" --Andrew McAleer, Crimestalker Casebook/crimestalkers.com
Back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, I spent most of my time jumping back and forth between a typewriter and an audio production booth while writing and producing for radio. And having spent most of my spare time performing and directing local theatre, I pen'd my first full-length play in 1984, Blackbeard's Final Conquest, an outdoor drama, and had my first indoor play reach the stage in 1989 when Brittany's Dream was produced at New Bern Civic Theatre.
I have resided about two miles downriver from Nicholas Sparks in New Bern, North Carolina with my wife Dorrie, and what is now four cats and a yorkie named "Higgins."
