Born in Lewis Co., Washington, I've been married 42 yrs to a native of Kalama, Cowlitz Co, Washington. In the US, we've lived in Renton, Ellensburg, Arlington, Centralia, & Vader. We have two grown sons and some incredible grandchildren!
In 1985-1988, we were Baha'i pioneers to the Marshall Islands. We lived in a Marshallese neighborhood and slept on the floor on a woven mat like the native Marshallese after discovering that in that humid climate, a mattress always felt damp. I taught at a cooperative school and at the College of Micronesia & Gary supervised a drag line/crusher crew while assisting the local Baha'i community in a variety of ways. I studied Marshallese informally with a local family, and we became very close. When I returned stateside, I had reverse culture shock as evidenced by crying for no apparent reason daily for 5 months. I felt like I'd been dropped onto an alien planet where I didn't belong.
After being hired to teach at Vader, my life gradually began to normalize as I readjusted to life in the U.S. A recently retired teacher, I have taught preschool, grades 1-7 and college courses.
We have horses and a mule for trail riding and packing; one horse is trained for cutting; the other two are geriatric pasture ornaments. I don't cut, but I was the mouth at the mic at the cutting shows. I also enjoy genealogy.
Gary has just retired, so we're busy around our place doing things that have been on hold. It's nice at last to have TIME!
