- More about me

57 y/o disabled Navy vet, grew up in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia. Widely read in all areas (cept "romance" novels), was snowed in for 2 weeks without anything new to read, so went from "A" to "Z" in the encyclopedia. Father a Methodist minister, active in "Civil Rights" movement and school integration. Both he and I were named by the KKK as "Honorary Nigger"(no offense, just fact) moved about every 4 yrs. so had no "home" except the mountains. Widely traveled the USA. As a "child of the 60s/70s" was some part a "flower child", I held a lot of the positive values of that age, not a real drug user or into the "tune in, turn on and drop out". Had very good experiences with the "magic mushroom", learned from these experiences (there are some things you just cannot describe/emote with unless you have been there and come back-I have seen the music of the sun, felt the earth carress me, held the wind in my hand).Stil have my "concert cloths" though I cannot fit into the jeans, the shirt still fits fine! 20 yrs. a biker (touring & back-road burner). Warrior (21 yrs. martial arts, last studied Akido), poet, teacher, man of peace. More than happily married to my "temptress-witch". In college 2 yrs. when draft number of 26 came up, volenteered instead for Navy. Basic and Hospital Corps School in San Diego, then to Oakland Naval Hospital on Neuro. CCU ward. Grad. of Navy PT/OT tech school. Instructor of PT tech school in Bethesda NNMC, then TAD Senior Petty Officer PT clinic main base of NTC, Chicago, Ill. Worked private/corporate security, personal bodyguard and with NI while stationed there. Grad. as Physician Assist. after Navy, worked primarily in Corrections Medicine until burned out, changed to home repair for rental agency. Became disabled with "unknown" neurological dysfunction around '92, took 3 yrs. to fight for disability status. Have just recently adapted enough to start home-based "Fixit" business, close to starting to make a few $$$ out of it. Currently working to get back to the wilderness of the Northwest from the East Coast.
- Activities
-
Cats, computers and "FPS" games, fixing things and recycling instead of tossing out, poetry, reading, Celtic and Asian culture and history. Collect knives, bladed weapons. Though currently limited by disability, as much as able and/or have done almost all forms of camping from primitive/wilderness to ACA accredited camp counselor, living off the land, instructor in nature/ woodscraft/ primitive living skills. Martial artist armed and unarmed forms, last studied Akido. Honored by presentation of my Katana. Crafts, wood working, electronics, home repair. Currently doing home repair/small appliance/electronics repair for home based business, trying to become "productive" again.
- Favorite Charities
-
Children and animal rescue, donated generally through church and ASPCA when funds available. Have already donated through rescue of our own 2 kits, wife found one (he actually found her when he was palm-sized, now a sassy LARGE male longer than my hand and arm past the elbow) and our dainty "little" girl who was going to have to go to "the pound" due to her person moving.
- Favorite Music
-
Mid to late 60s, 70s, some 80s and newer, very little of the "new" or current music. Folk, psychedelic, soft and hard rock, classical, some jazz and blues, Delta Blues, country, "authentic" country (not Nashville "twang"), mountain music, some new age and "nature", Celtic. Groups and individuals too numerous to mention, primary favorites including C, S, N & Y (4-Way Street's the best), Alan Parsons Project, Jethro Tull, Yes, Robin Trower, Elton John (in particular Madman Across the Water), Queen, Mountain, Kansas (John Barleycorn Must Die, Leftoverture) and so many more. Have always loved Stevie Nicks, as so many others, was my fantasy woman for her music as much as the persona. Guitar solo "Oh, Well" last track on original Bare Trees album Fleetwood Mac, not on any other publishings.

Too numerous to list, been reading since age 4, an untrained, natural "speed reader" at 1, 500+ words/min. Have worked my way through several small public libraries. Finished Journeys of the Catechist series(Alan Dean Foster) currently reviewing Grant's Atlas of Anatomy(on figure 605 Septum of Nose). Read almost anything other than "romance" novels including several online "tech" mags in general science, medicine, computer technology and natural sciences.
- Favorite Quotes
-
"I think, therefore I am, I think." Moody Blues, prelude to the album Nights in White Satin. As I recall, the whole thing goes-1st voice- "I think, therefore I am, I think."-2nd voice-"Of course you are, my bright little star. I've miles and miles of files, pretty files, of your forefathers fruit, and now to suit our Great Computer, you're magnetic ink."-1st voice-"I must be more, at least, I think I am."-3rd voice-"There you go, man, be as cool as you can. It riles them to believe that you perceive the web they weave, and keep on thinking Free." or something close to that. Has been excluded from all re-masters and re-releases I have been able to find.

The "real" people, the "little" guy. Those who take pride in the daily tasks of making the world and our nation work, perhaps plodding through all the muck of making a living in whatever way they can, yet doing service to their fellows with cheer. Those who clean up after themselves, conserve, preserve, keep things in repair and working far after many others would just "throw it out", are reverent towards others' beliefs and privacy, not demanding their little "right" to annoy and live off of others. Most politicians, movie stars, and "personalities" need not apply here, I am for the "real" people of this nation and the Earth. Also, the Great Wizard Tim.

CATS, critters in general. Have had pets of all nature from the usual "childhood" type on through insect, reptile, and mammal. Everything from chickens, ducks, dogs and cats to horned toads, chameleons, various spiders (wolf/jumping spiders in particular), praying mantis, tarantulas (my last named Fluffy for its cute hairy legs) snakes (had 3 fine Eastern Diamondback Rattlers before my parents found them). Favorite cat-all of them, dog-collie, spider-Black Widow, lizard-blue tailed skink and horned toad, mammal-my wife (I am sure I will die for that one)
