- More about me

The library is perhaps my favorite place away from home. So I read a great deal. Most of my reading now is fiction, but I have also developed a great fascination with theoretical physics, little of which I understand. When not reading, I enjoy long walks and working in my small garden. For recreation, I spend my spare change at the local horse track with good friends at our table where we also try to solve the problems of the world and the mysteries of existence. One day I thought I had the solution but by the time I got home I forgot what it was. It has eluded me ever since. And perhaps all that helps me to hone my attitude toward life and all other humans as one of tolerance and live and let live.

I watch very few "shows" on TV. But it is often entertaining to watch the talking heads on the talk shows yelling about their current issues or complaints. There is, however, one current show that I try not to miss and that is NCIS. Otherwise I might catch reruns of Cheers, Steinfeld or All in the Family. And I avoid American Idol at all costs!!!

Books by Robert Parker, John Sandford, Carl Hiaasen, George Pelecanos, Jeffery Deaver, Parnell Hall, Daniel Silva, William Tapply, Michael Connelly. And that is just a start; there are many others. I love discovering a new author I have not yet read. In non-fiction, history, current events and, actually, any subject that interests me at a given moment.

The origin of what we call civilization is not due to religion but to skepticism... The modern world is the child of doubt and inquiry, as the ancient world was the child of fear and faith.---Clarence Darrow The ideals which have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.---Albert Einsein I can live with doubt and uncertainty. I think it's much more interesting to live not knowing than to have answers which might be wrong.---Richard Feynman There are only two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the latter ignorance---Hippocrates; I beseech you, in the bowels of Christ, think it possible you may be mistaken.---Oliver Cromwell
