A lot depends on what the exchange rate is at the time. I'm leaning toward Portugal now as I understand that things are a lot less expensive there than the British Isles. I've talked to a few people who have been both places, and Portugal sounds like the best bet. We'll see!
I have the same back ground as you do, French, Scots, and English, with maybe some Irish thrown in back there somewhere!

Like you, I too like the quaint villages and towns, but do enjoy the bigger cities for the museums. The food in France is the BEST in the world, wouldn't you agree?
We found, as you did, that the cheaper tours cost nearly as much as the first class ones, and they put you in hotels way out of town, so you must travel in a taxi or bus to get back there.
Keep me posted on your next travel destination. You have certainly seen a lot more places than I have. I've seen most of western Europe, the Caribbean, most of the US including Hawaii, and we're cruising in Canada and Alaska in May. I haven't decided where to go as yet, but may try Portugal or Ireland in the fall. I'm also interested in visiting England and Scotland.
Have a great day!

I noticed that your eons name is "Eurotraveler". Have you been to, or lived in Europe?
