The Borgen Project is a nonprofit organization working to bring U.S. political attention to severe global poverty.  We are a global movement of people who are working to get poverty on the agenda of the world’s most powerful leaders. The organization has united people from all over the world and from all walks of life to join the fight to hold political leaders accountable for severe poverty.

We're creating a political force for the world's poor. We're building a powerful, poverty-reduction movement that can champion humanitarian causes and compete with the strongest industries on Capitol Hill.  Poverty reduction has a dire need for an unrestricted catalyst and the Borgen Project was designed to fulfill that need.

Our Story: In 2003, a 25-year-old launched the Borgen Project with a laptop and a budget that came from living on a fishing vessel in Dutch Harbor, Alaska. The rest is history. From New York to New Delhi, from the upper reaches of power, to the humblest forms of desperation, people from all walks of life have joined the strategic push to hold political leaders accountable for severe poverty.
