    About Me

I was born in a small log cabin, which I helped my father build.  (I’ve always liked that line.)  However, on a more serious note:

Married twice, divorced twice, last one pending.  Offspring: 1 boy, twenty years old as of this writing.  And making all the same mistakes I did at that age, plus a few of his own.  At least he has a father that tries to guide and listen, something I didn’t have.  All things considered, a great kid, of whom I’m very proud.

I had 3.5+ decades working in various functions of Information Technology.  Of course, back-in-the-day it was called Data Processing.  (My paid employment began while I was still in high school.)  Over two decades of that time included carrying a pager and/or cell phone; I never want another electronic tether as long as I live.  My hobbies used to be almost all outdoor activities, e.g. backpacking/hiking, boating, camping, driving, fishing, touring.  If I had it to do all over again, I would surely make my profession my hobby, and make my hobbies my profession.  At various times, I’ve also owned/operated: a game store, a small antiques concern, my own I/T consulting business, and a real estate investing company.

Spent my first 40 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, East Bay.  Finally could no longer stand the overwhelming number of cars, concrete, and people.  So, moved to Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where I have remained for 10+ years, and have no intentions of another long-distance move.  It was a most interesting change - one of the bigger cities here in Oregon would likely only rate the smallest dot on a California atlas.

On a different note, for 6+ years I was heavily committed to Cub Scouts, BSA.  My most important job was Dad to my Cub Scout.  Other functions included: Tiger Cub Coach, Den Leader, Cubmaster, Pack Overnighters, Basic Leader Training staff, Cub Scout Leader Roundtable staff, Outdoor Leader Skills staff, Day Camp staff, Resident Camp staff, Cub Scout Leader Pow-Wow staff, Wood Badge.  I highly recommend this program for any boy in the first through fifth grades.

I somewhat recently became disabled and am now stuck in-house 99% of the time.  I also have a hodgepodge of other health issues, some of which have me taking a variety of prescriptions and OTC meds.  (Yup, gettin’ old is sure a bummer.)  My only "outings" nowadays are getting to watch our gray whales migrating past twice a year.
