Places I've been

I grew up in the tundra as I refer to Western New York state. Snow, ice, and long sleeve sweatshirts for the 4th of July! Of course there is hockey and proximity to Canada! The most difficult aspect , though are the overcast skies and wind being located adjacent to the Great Lakes. Having said that, other areas of the country I have lived (Florida, Washington D.C, Ohio) have their own set of ……’things’….bugs and humidity being two that I have encountered that I can do without. For the past 23 years I have lived in NC. I am very fond of North Carolina. Much is available within a day’s drive and usually much less than that…mountains, seaside, barrier islands, organic farms, major universities, good size cities. Fresh air, lots of space, sunshine, Carolina blue skies!

Lover of:   music-- a wide variety of genre, reading, writing, nature seaside or mountains, children,  pets, museums, book stores, live musical theater, concerts, gardens: flower and vegetable, crossword puzzles,  Italy, Thomas Jefferson, Alphonse Mucha, Georgia O’Keefe, Andrew Wyeth,  college basketball, Olympic swimming, gymnastics, diving, the Internet.

My creative urge has always led the way for me.  I have attempted many forms of visual arts including: painting: oils, acrylic, watercolor,; drawing with pencil water color pencils, prisma color markers, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, photography, graphic design, product illustration, drafting, airbrush, pottery, interior decorating and design, stage sets,  sewing embroidery, cooking, floral arranging, table top design, party decorations and themes, and all variety of crafts. Professionally I applied my talents to graphic design for the last ten years. I find it many times--too highly pressurized an expression for creativity. Kind of being creative on demand and on a deadline!  I feel my best efforts have been in several media: oils, acrylics, watercolor pencils, pen and ink, photography, book cover design.

Cooking for me has been rewarding, relaxing and creative. I have collected my mother’s and grandmother’s recipes from the province of Marche (on the Italian Adriatic coast south of Venice)  and hope to type set them and produce a book of recipes if for no one else than my daughters, nieces and nephews.  
I have posted many of my favorite pieces in my art album on my profile and will continue to add as I continue to scan and photograph the portfolio pieces.
