I recently retired and moved from Baltimore to the mountains of Western North Carolina...where the air is clean, the stars shine brightly at night, I can see mountain peaks from my back windows.  Here the pace of life is a little slower and each new day is an invitation to live life to the full.

Activities

Art quilting, running/walking, hiking, reading (mostly fiction), tai chi, meditation, volunteering at a visitors' center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, travel, exploring small towns and out-of-the way places, trying new foods and eating out

Lawrence of Arabia (I was thrilled last spring when I got to visit the setting for that movie, the Wadi Rum Desert in Jordan). Also: Atonement, The Reader, O Brother Where Art Thou

A few of my favorites: One Thousand Years of Solitude, The Dollmaker, Saints at the River, anything by Barbara Kingsolver, anything by Anita Shreve, In a Sunburned Country (made me long to travel to Australia)

My Aunt Mary (who lived to be almost 100), my son and step-daughter, my two grandchildren
