When the duchess entered the chamber alone, at first, Sye had fallen asleep in her woman form. The duchess walked over to her and kicked her side. "Wake up!" she scowled. Sye opened her eyes and sat up straight, realizing who was doing the kicking. "Where are my children?" Sye growled. "We are preparing them for death, my Queen," the duchess laughed. "You would not kill two innocents!" Sye cried out. "Want to watch? Afterall you did watch Albert's death, didn't you!?" the duchess roared. "I know you have a reason to have brought us all here," Sye demanded. "What is it that you want?" "Your crown!" the duchess screamed. "Impossible," Sye dismissed the thought. At that moment, the duchess showed her the vision of the pups, all tied with Zira's head on the chopping block and the executioner standing over her. "Wrong answer," the duchess turned to walk away. "Ok!" Sye screamed, "Ok," she cried. "It is yours for the safe return of my twins to their father... for my crown." The duchess walked over to Sye and slapped her in the face hard, "Done! But I would have gotten that anyway!" "What do you mean?" Sye slowly responded after that strike. The duchess turned to the guard who opened the door. Sye's face lit up when she saw the pups running toward her, or so she thought. They stopped at the duchess and tugged at her dress to pick them up. "See? They are mine now, anyway!" she laughed. "They don't need your milk anymore and they come to me, not you, on their own!" Sye watched them. It was apparent they were happy where they were, with the duchess. "Queen of the Realm, you will be taken to your kingdom and to your castle. You will relinquish all rights to me as ruler and in return I will return your children to their father," the duchess offered her the ultimatum. "If you decline, these two innocents will be slaughtered within the hour." Without thought, Sye spoke up, "For my children, I relinquish my crown! But may God have mercy on your soul when my husband gets to you..." "There are ways to control that too!" she laughed. "You were only the first step!" With that, she picked up the pups and gave them a loving hug in front of Sye. They responded to the duchess with licks on her cheeks as all three of them left.

Sye was bound by her wrists only as she was thrown into the carriage with her guard close behind. Nothing was said between her, the guard or the coachman. Sye closed her eyes and concentrated, sending a message to Light and Aldo when the guard kicked her leg hard. "Wake up!" the guard screamed. "I am not sleeping!" Sye growled as she gritted her teeth. The guard acted quickly and pulled her knife to Sye's throat, "Quiet Queen! Or I will kill you now and not wait until after!" Sye thought of the words and realized that the duchess intended to kill her after the relinquishing of the crown, and now the guard watched her every move so as not to allow for the mental messages to Light. Light was just coming back from his talk with Lady Elaine and was on the porch when he got a message from Aldo that the duchess had made her demand that Sye relinquish the crown and are on their way to the castle. No word as yet on the twins. "Okay Father, I'll be there shortly," Light sent back. Just as he finished, Luke appeared. "I'm going, Dad!" he insisted in his teemaged way. "No you're not," said Light. "I need you to be with Bear and Wren, Son. This something I must do alone."

The carriage pulled through the gate at Cirane' and the guard turned to Sye. "I am releasing your bonds, but if you try to escape, the twins will be dead before we get back! Our people are inside your castle and there are enough to defeat the king's army," she said. "You have my word," Sye responded. "I will not attempt escape." The guard walked beside Sye closely and Sye lead them to the main hall. The soldiers and servants alike all bowed low as she passed and when she walked into the chamber, she went directly to the throne and sat as Aldo appeared to her. "You were told, Aldo?" Sye asked. "Yes, your Majesty," he responded. "Then bring me my crown," Sye commanded, with sadness in her voice. The chamberlain brought forth a satin pillow with the Royal's crown on top. He took the crown from the pillow and placed it on Sye's head and then Sye stood before the soldiers and servants of the Realm. "As an act in good faith to pledge full cooperation for the return of my children and for the safe dwelling of our citizens, I pass over my crown to the Duchess," she removed the crown from her head and gave it to the duchess's representative who was with them. He took the crown and then a cheer went up from the room as all of the agents who were there from Natwann revealed themselves. They stood more than half of the population of the castle and the king's army, had they chosen to move at that time, all would have been defeated. So The Realm's soldiers all stood in watch for the move of Prince Light who was not in attendance, but everyone knew where Sye was in jeopardy he would not be far away. Light was in the ante chamber taking note of the people who were cheering and he was relaying this to Aldo. He sent a short thought to Sye, "I'm here." ...and that was all. He then shimmered and went to wait in the forest for the carriage to pass so he would follow it and attempt a rescue. A tear touched Sye's cheek as she received Light's message, but instantly she responded to him as she sat down from the excitement of cheers... "No rescue. Not here. Twins." But Aldo received the message as well and he stood forward. "As I understand, Light's Twins are to be returned! Where are they?" "They are where they need to be," the representative spoke up, "Waiting for their father." "I am their grandfather!" Aldo said, "And I will take them now!" Sye's guard went to her and quietly said, "Get him to back down or they will be dead before we return!" "Aldo," Sye quieted him, "This has all been worked out in agreement. Light must come for them when the duchess takes them to the meeting spot to give them back to Light." "Yes m'Lady," Aldo bowed and left the room. "Well done," the guard jabbed her in the side with the butt of her sword. "Your twins will live, for now." Light sent out a thought to Aldo as well as Sye, "I'm close by, no need to worry. I'll get everyone home safely. No further messages now. Don't want to arouse suspicions."

When the guard pushed Sye back to her room, at the duchess's castle, she turned to secure her in chains and Sye came up off the ground with a kick to her abdomen. The guard doubled over and Sye came down on her head with both hands and broke her neck. All she needed to do now was to find the pups. She walked stealthly down the hall until she heard them whimpering. The door was locked and she fought feverishly to open it before someone heard her. It was difficult to use her hands with her wrists bound with rope, but she did manage to open it and the pups came tumbling out. Looking around for something to put them in, to hide and shield them, she found a basket in the hall which held a plant. She removed the plant and dusted the dirt out. Placing the pups in the basket she left the site looking for a door to the outside. Light was not far away, circling the premises, looking for a point of entry into the duchess's lair. Luke was only a few minutes behind his father but stayed in the woods until he could get a good fix on where everyone was. A few minutes back from Luke was Bear and the rest of the group who decided to wait and set up camp by the river and wait for Luke's signal. Sye found a window and slid from there to the ground. She thought quickly and seeing the river, hoped that the basket would be buoyant. She placed it in the shallow side and seeing that it floated, set the basket in the river and let go... not knowing how or when, but praying that she would see her babies again. She turned to go back to the castle. Wishing that her arms would not be bound so tightly so that she could even the score with the duchess, Sye knew the best thing to do would just be to run and hope that Light would find her. She heard a crack and turned. But it was not Light. It was another of the duchess' guards! He wasn't as nice as the one she had just killed. He threw her up against a tree and said, "Trying to escape? What a shame and the party is just about to begin." Light entered the lair and was searching for Sye and the twins when he heard the commotion created by the guard and Sye. He headed in that direction but he sensed that the duchess was close at hand. This guard put chains around Sye's ankles so that she could not pull another kick like the one dealt to her original guard. But as she struggled, knowing that this time might be the last she had to delay her own death, this guard hurried. "Come now, Sye, you wouldn't want to be late for your own party!" he crooned, "Or should I say funeral?" He laughed wickedly As he took her down the hallway to the duchess's chambers. As they walked through the entrance of the duchess's room, the guard laughed heartily. "Here she is, your Majesty!" "Ahh, Majesty... I like the sound of that!" the duchess said, "very fitting, don't you think, former Queen Sye of the Realm?" "You will never be Queen of the Realm!" Sye shouted. "That was my mother and you are no where near alike!" "But I AM Queen of the Realm, right now, as a matter of fact! Thanks to you!" the duchess laughed strong. "There's nothing you can do to stop me!" "Maybe not me, but my husb..." The duchess interrupted her, "Your husband is miles from here and would not make a move because of the pups." Sye quieted in hopes that she would not bring the thought up of the Twins, but the duchess had reminded herself of them. "Bring the twins to me in the exhibition hall," the duchess ordered. "They should see this death!" "No they are babies! You cannot expose them..." Sye began, but the guard drew his sword at her back and she stopped. The queen laughed and then Sye told her. "You cannot kill me. You still need me to feed them." "Oh, I assure you. They have been quite weaned away for over a week now," the duchess responded. "Get them for me and make haste!! Send another guard to escort our friend to the room where she will meet her demise!" As the one guard went to fetch the pups, another was sent in to take Sye to her execution room. Before they left, she watched the duchess walk out onto her balcony. "Citizens of Natwann!" the duchess crooned, "We have come to the end of an era where the king's blood is no longer in control of the Realm! We are!" The crowd below cheered for her. "Now, you are all invited to the exhibition hall to watch the final descendant of the king perrish! Then the Realm will be ours!" the duchess echoed over the castle and beyond the walls... where Luke stood waiting to find his way into the castle. Light slipped in behind the duchess and said, "Don't you think you should check that out with me first?" As the duchess turned, her face drawn tight with anger, the guard grabbed Sye fiercely as the duchess grabbed her sword from the wall. "This time, you will be out of my hair for good!" she screamed. The duchess faced Light with her sword drawn at Sye's neck. "Have you anything to say before your death?" the duchess laughingly asked Sye.
Light put his arms around Sye's waist and looked at her, "Are you sure you're alright?" Sye did not answer him. Instead, she turned away from him because her butterflies had returned when she thought the lake. "If you could read my thoughts just then, why not now? You trusted me with my powers in battle, yet you do not seek to understand through our interaction? M'Lord, there is something wrong with this." Still uncertain that he understood, Sye walked away from him... standing in front of the mirror, taking the ribbon from her hair to release it to her shoulders. She grasped the brush from the vanity and began to comb. "How can I answer you if like everyone else you consider only my station and not my heart?" She turned to watch him from across the room. Light walked up to Sye, "It's not your station in life that has me worried, my sweet. It's that I," he paused and looked down, "Have never been with a woman before. I too get so confused when we are close like when we were at the lake that day. Kissing you, my head was swimming, and I was just doing what I felt. It's not like fighting a battle where I know that you kill the enemy." He placed his hands on Sye's shoulders and sttod there looking into her eyes. "Again with the chaste business!" Sye said as she pushed past him and stood alone by the door. "I heard you the first time when you told me that. And I heard you when you said that I should remain chaste. And honestly I have heard all I want to hear about that." She quieted a moment and then walked to him, sliding her arms around his waist. She buried her face in his chest and continued, "and I am scared. I am scared to death! I don't know how to be a wife, although the king insists that we strike while the iron is hot! I suppose I am already old, considered by some, and yet I do not feel old," she paused, "and I'm afraid." Sye looks up into Light's eyes, trembling with tears, "I'm afraid if I refuse that I will never again feel the way I felt when you held me that day at the lake." At this point, the tears streamed down her cheeks as if the tension of what she was feeling all this time since her uncertainty the first time they really touched...all of the tension was now released. Feeling the heat of Sye's head on his chest, her scent wafting up into his nostrils, he felt a heat welling up inside of him as he looked at the woman he had loved since he protected her that day outside the castle gates! The innocent child, so helpless and innocent... he swooped her up and took her to the pile of pillows in the corner of the room. Laying her down gently, he kissed her deeply and followed his passion's whims on what to do next. He took his shirt off and unstrapped his pants as he knelt above her, kissing her finally as he had only dreamed in the past. His head was swimming as they started to reach and caress each other. Surprised at his immediateness... relieved at his intent, but still frightened for them both, Sye's nerves took control, "I guess this is the other part of being a soldier... exploring new worlds?" She laughed nervously as Light removed his garments, knowing that this time, maybe this time. "Light easy..." she slowed him, partially because her fear at him becoming more and more aroused. His strength, his bare muscles, her own desires becoming apparent as her breaths matched his... she closed her eyes at his touch, his kiss, on her neck, on her lips, and when he reached the bare neckline of her gown she felt the heat come over her. "Oh Light... this...this is why I was trembling." Her heart beat quickened as she tried to contain her growing feelings which she did not yet understand. Still kissing her, Light unbuttoned the front of her gown exposing her to him. He kissed her under her mouth and worked down to her neck... to her now exposed breast. His heat becoming more and more unbearable as his hands explored more and more of her body under the gown. Feeling his hands on her... wishing her undergarments were scattered... she realized that there would be no way for him to pursue his pleasures unless she relinquished her resolve completely. But the fear of Light, the Wolf, weighed heavy on her heart. A wolf! The strongest of most animals... remembering the fire in his blue eyes, with her fingertips she raised his chin to see those eyes and saw it again. The Wolf... and it frightened her! Slightly, she pushed him away and sat up on the pillows. Still breathing heavily, they both sat to calm. Sliding her arm around his waist, she said, "You did nothing wrong, my love. It is my fear of the wolf that stopped me." She looked to him, with pleading eyes, "I feel your passion, your heat! I want... but the wolf..." Without a word, Light touched his finger to her lips and said, "The wolf won't harm you, my love, but drives my passion for you." Kissing her once again, he took her by the shoulders and raised her to her feet. Taking her gown to the floor, he spoke softly to comfort her. "This time, the wolf is here and he shall not disappoint," Light spoke to her decidedly as he looked into her eyes. Deeply, he claimed her in his kiss. He gently laid her back to the pillows, lapping and nipping at her breast and belly. Finally, their passions drove them to the pleasure they both sought and afterwards they slept in each others' arms.

Sye awoke with the first light of morning glistening on her face through the window. She turned and saw Light by her side, wrapped in a coverlet and nothing else. The realization of what took place made her feel that all was right with the world. Careful not to move to abruptly, she slid her arm over his waist, cuddling to him and there she fell asleep. Light opened his eyes slightly when he felt an arm reach for him. Remembering where he was and satisfied at the fact, he placed his arm around Sye and the two snuggled inside the coverlet as the morning sun warmed them both. A slight knock came at the door. "Sye...Sye, Aldo and Bear are looking for Light. They know he wasn't at their camp last night and are wandering around. It won't be long before they come here for something to eat," Red whispered. "Duty calls, my love," Sye whispered as she allowed him to slide from the pillows and reach for his clothes. She watched on, not wanting to move right away, and gazed at the man who was promised to be her husband. He dressed like lightning. Then he turned to her and blew her a kiss while tripping on his boots. He ran out the door and passed his sister who was giggling as he went tipping down the path towards his men. Red went back inside, still giggling as she went to their room. She saw Sye getting dressed. "Some breakfast, Sister?" Red giggled. Lady Sye stretched and yawned, looking at her with a satisfied smile. "And Light went down the hall tripping on his boots," Red giggled as she smiled at Sye. Sye said not a word, but the glow on her face told the story. "Are you hungry, Sister?" Red continued. "Yes," Sye answered quickly, "but not for sustenance!" She giggled, as she stood wrapped in nothing but the coverlet and walked to the window, watching Light shimmer to the black wolf and run off into the woods. "A good night then?" Red spoke up. Sye remained quiet once again, but smiled and answered, "Perhaps toast and a cool drink would help." Light fell into his tent when a voice from the corner said, "Where have you been? You know we have to get every thing packed up. Bear and Fox have dismissed the men so they can go to their families. Bear and Fox will join us at Red's for breakfast, then meet us at the king's castle in time for the official announcement of your marriage to Sye. You have no time to go off on your playful whims with the gnomes!" "Sorry Father, but there were circumstances beyond my control. I promise it won't happen again," Light said suspiciously. "Well see that it don't, Boy! Now let's go see what Red has cooking! I'm hungry!" Aldo said, and grinned at Light as they trudged back up the path, seeing the paw prints and knowing that his som had just come from there. Sye descended the stairs and went directly to the dining hall. "Red, how may I help?" she offered. "Help, m'Lady? Sit. I will serve you." Red answered. "The men shall be here soon and you need help with setting table as you prepare the meal, Sister. I am not royalty when I am here with family," Sye answered her back. As Red looked up at her, sye amiled and took the plates from her as Red turned and went back to her kitchen. Before long, the men entered complaining that they were hungry. Sye watched Light as he entered with his father. Bear and Fox came in a second afterwards. But the magnetism between the two lovers was unmistakeable to Aldo as he remembered the intimate glances he shared with Elaine in their younger years. Light glanced to Sye who was setting the table and smiled sheepishly. He sat down with Bear and Fox as she came over to serve them. When Aldo noticed, he said, "With all this smiling and blushing goin on here, you'd think someone could get something to eat!" Laughing heartily, Bear and Fox both took a seat and as they did, they slapped Light on the back knocking the drink from his hand. Red, from across the room, yelled, "It's coming, you old wolf!" Sye smiled and went with Red to get the food. "Do I blush too much?" Sye asked as they went back into the kitchen. She felt somewhat shy about the table chatter. "Just enough, Princess," Red said, calming her. "Young love is always new and flirtacious. It is just apparent that you both share the enthusiasm for your upcoming wedding." "Yes," Sye answered without going on, but the thought crossed her mind on how she will be at her father's castle... and no sweet solace to hide within there. As if reading her mind, Red said, "Not to worry, Sister. I'll be there for you as will your mother and mine to help and guide you. After we are finished with feeding these fine gentlemen, we'll get our riding gear together." Red's message was pleasing to hear, but that was not exactly what was on Sye's mind. For now that the fear of the wolf had been quenched, the fire of passion remained. The ladies ate and then went to dress for the trip. Sye dressed in her gear as a soldier, but Red donned the suit of a true rider. However, when the evil one was there before, his band of thieves stole their family's horses. Light's horses were made ready and Red looked to him questioningly as he mounted. Lady Sye emerged with her horse from the royal stables. Sye saw the immediate need and spoke up as Light began to apologize to his sister for not having an extra horse. "Not to worry, Sister. Take my horse for the trip. When we get to the castle, I will make sure that you receive another horse." Red and Light both looked at Sye wonderingly. The thought of sharing had not occured to either. "A hand," Sye looked at Light as he still was not paying attention to anything more than Red's dilemma. "Ahem, a hand, my prince?" Sye asked again, as Light reached down for her hand and pulled her to sit behind him. He blushed to feel her so close with his family right there. "Well if that doesn't make a pretty picture," Bear laughed. "Prince Light blushing and his blushing bride to be right behind!" All of the men laughed heartily as did Light. But Lady Sye cautioned him, "One word, and you are not wearing armor my prince. Think! For my hands are not far away from your area!" Light quieted at her comment and proceded to ride on to Cirane'.
