I was was born in Jamaica, West Indies and I'm the author of two novels, The True History of Paradise (Dutton-Plume 1999) and The Pirate’s Daughter (Unbridled Books 2007, Random House 2008). Other publications include short fiction, essays, and articles. My screenplay, Photo Finish, about a Jamaican-American athlete, was sold to Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. I teach literature and creative writing at Wellesley College and currently reside in Massachusetts. I'm the proud parent of a nine year old boy. Among my interests: reading (poetry, classics, mystery novels), cooking, music, history, art & architecture, travel, sports (soccer, baseball). I love the beach.
