Places I've been
Parris Island S.C. Norfork VA. Jacksonville FL. New Orleans LA. Long Island NY. NYNY. Yuma ARZ. Lived in Portland OR. 79 thru 83..watched MT.ST.Helens erupt from 50 miles away..(very humbling experience)and lots of Native legends..Loowit:Pahtoe:and Wyhest..well been many more places but need more space..lol..:o)
More about me
Born in a small New England town..Father of German descent..Mother, French, Mohawk Indian, and English.  (you will find my Volks-wagon parked in front of my tee-pee, come on in I'll be serving French toast, and English muffins..lol)   Was raised on a dairy farm in the Berkshires..our farm was located at the base of Mt.Greylock in Adams Ma.  Our last name meant turnip farmers..so I guess we all  were destined to be farmers..lol.   Joined the Marine Corps in 1967..after basic training in Parris Island..continued education and advanced training in Camp Lejeune N.C. Married my high school sweet-heart in 1969...marriage lasted 29 years and 5 months...which shows nothing lasts forever.  Have no regrets as my x-wife gave me two of the most cherished things in my life.  Some people have called me an enabler..that I put my children and grandchildren before my own interests..I'll die saying my family comes first.  There is a fine line between greedy and generosity..from coddling and staunchness..and even love and hate,  so I've learned never label "anyone" until or unless you've walked in their shoes, even then judgment is not ours to give. Like my Grandmother always said "if you haven't anything good to say about someone don't say anything at all"   From an early age my Father told me to do as many different jobs as humanly possible..to learn many skills..and do each one well.  Can't thank him enough....starting with farm work, pumping gas..(and mechanic)..mill work..(laundry, paper maker, textiles, metal fabrication, and even at a large bakery)..continuing my education at a local trade school made for many new skills..hotel restaurant management was one..in my late 20's owned and operated a night club..(fast lane)..many good memories but the life style was keeping us away from our children. In my early 40's to mid 50's my brother and I built and remodeled homes..again thank my Dad for all his foresight..just wished I would have listened when he pleaded for me to stop smoking..if I can leave anything behind "about me"... the message would be if you smoke, stop now..don't wait..I did and it forced me into retirement..life has been forever changed for me..things we all take for granted..like working..or even just walking has become next to impossible..its been over two years of being smoke free..some little improvements with inhalers three times a day..and oxygen at night, (or when I do my daily exercises).  So in my twilight years I've decided to become a professional beggar..please don't smoke..I'm trying not to dwell on the many consequences of smoking but it is hard for me as it has robbed me and countless others of their livelihood.   Christopher Reeve said it best when asked what he missed most because of his disabilities..he quoted "spontaneity"..while his action or movement was more severe his quality of life was forever changed.  It also robbed me of all savings..assets..now I live on a small SSI check, the blessing is just before my illness I purchased and old fixer-upper cheap..at least I have no mortgage or rent payments.    Well there are many more chapters in my past..hope there will be a few more in the future..I think Jackie Gleason said it best,  when we figure out life we will be dead, so like many I'll forever be a student..always learning.  Some of the many "about me" I have read on Eons humbles me, as no matter how bad one thinks they have it or had, some here and out there have had many worse expierences..(and live with it)..for them my prayers and blessings go..they are really the heroes of life..!
Activities
winter months are kinda tv..internet..movie time, being retired have lots of time on my hands..but my time is never idle will always be doing someting. I also like solitare, mahjongg tiles, and other games. Summer is garden time, grow many veggies, and now getting into flowers, Photobucketjust wished the summer season was longer being outside is much more productive for me. Do some swimming..but mostly cleaning it..lol My early retirement was due to health reasons so 2 hours of each day is for exercise..don't mind as all my former work was physical.

The Wooden Bowl I guarantee you will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now… A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But, the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth. The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about father," said the son. "I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor." So, the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl! When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food. The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up." The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled. On a positive note, I've learned that, no matter what happens, how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. I've learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. I've learned that, regardless of your relationship with your parents, you'll miss them when they're gone from your life. I've learned that making a "living" is not the same thing as making a "life…" I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance. I've learned that you shouldn't go through life with a catcher's mitt on both hands. You need to be able to throw something back. I've learned that if you pursue happiness, it will elude you. But if you focus on your family, your friends, the needs of others, your work and doing the very best you can, happiness will find you. I've learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually make the right decision. I've learned that even when I have pains, I don't have to be one. I've learned that every day, you should reach out and touch someone. People love that human touch -- holding hands, a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. I've learned that I still have a lot to learn!
