Born in New York City, 1932, attended PS 6, Bronx Science, Heights College, NYU (now closed), English Major. USArmy 1952. Went to graduate school in Europe on GI Bill 1955-60, studied Art History at Courtauld Institute of Art, languages at University of Madrid and Perugia.

Wrote novel, Vangel Griffin, that won the Harper Prize in 1961. Short stories in Mademoiselle, Antioch Review, Paris Review and other magazines.

Married, six children, wrote Civil War novel that didn't get published, needed money, worked in office equipment and publishing, moved to Connecticut in 1964. Stopped writing for almost 40 years, started Market Data Retrieval in 1969. CEO of MDR for 28 years, sold it to Dun & Bradstreet, was head of D&B Debt Collection and MDR, elected to Board of Ed in Wesport, CT, served fifteen years, three as chairman, retired from all that and went back to writing.

Wife died in 2002, two grandchildren so far. New novel, Succession coming out this spring. Have a website, oldtimewriter.com and a blog called Making Things Disappear More Slowly. Looking for contributors. (See website for details.)

Spend my time writing, seeing my family, walking my yellow lab, splitting wood for my woodstove.

Activities

Long family dinners with lots of wine. Writing, reading, walking five miles with my dog in the mornings, splitting wood for my wood stove.
