More about me

I'm a tall, extrovert, who loves live music, animals, little kids (as long as they are not mine), flowers, calming landscapes, a good book, and crisp linens. I sew, cook, iron, make jewelry, and garden, but I also spent nearly 20 years as a successful professional woman working in a man's world, as a commercial litigator.  I am now a professor, mediator, and ethicist. 

I find I am in the most deliberate time of my life, because I have geat choice over what I do these days.  I teach, at a graduate school, all the peacemaking skills I never learned 20 years ago.  I hope to make the world a little easier on all of us through the lessons I teach.  

 

Activities

Gardening; reading good fiction; finding good wine and food; watching movies. Yoga, biking and weight lifting in an effort to recover from an injury.

Favorite TV Shows

I am not hooked up to cable or satellite TV. So I watch episodes recorded on DVD. Watched Rome and Entourage. Loved both. Became a fan of Weeds after its first season. I like old episodes of Ellen, but that reflects my love of slapstick/physical humor. I spent many latch-key kid hours watching The Stooges. I still love a great pratfall. For the same reason, I love the 70s Show. I also have the full collection of Sex in the City, Everybody Loves Raymond, West Wing, and Seinfeld. I also watch John Stewart, Being Erica, House, The Office, Bones, and excerpts from Whose Line is it Anyway on the internet.

Favorite Movies

Not too many I don't like. Knocked Up was hilarious. The Producers has some very funny songs. Upside of Anger shows great work by Joan Allen. Angels in America, Alfie, Adaptation, Almost Famous, Something's Got to Give, Best in Show, Capote, Chicago, The English Patient, Legally Blond, Lost in Translation, Philadelphia, Pirates of the Caribbean, Royal Tannenbaums, Flawless, and Broken Flowers. I like well written stories with lots of character development. If it doesn't have much plot, I don't mind. But, I liked Casino Royal and Black Knight because they were well-written scripts with good action.

Favorite Books

Paris Trout; Lonesome Dove; Prodigal Summer (which mentions the little town I live in now). Just finshed: The No Asshole Rule. I also read quite a bit of Buddhist philosophy. I read just about any literary fiction that has won an award. I try to read good writing so I am a better writer.

Harriette Woods (the first high profile woman politician in Missouri); my mom, who died several years ago; my best friend from highschool. Venice, Italy in October. The Breaks Interstate Park on a bluegrass concert night. The Carter Fold on a Saturday night in the summer. The area around the New River Bridge. Santa Monica on an expense account. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge.

Dogs, no contest. I have two rescues -- Izzy and Maria. I also like frogs and birds.
