More about me

Hi, I'm an unmarried special education teacher living and working in Wasilla, Alaska.  I have two children, both grown, and my son and his wife have given me all three of my wonderful grandchildren.

 The perception of Alaska lifestyles may be cabins, A-frames, or God forbid, igloos, but I live in a nice little condo that could transplant easily into any less rural setting and it's in a gated community.  This means I don't have to deal with snow removal or landscaping, and I rather enjoy that!  

I plan to retire when I'm 60, and I'm really fortunate that I not only love my work, but it pays a living wage and lets me have plenty of time away from work to pursue other interests and enjoy my life.  

 I truly believe that your life is only as happy as you allow it to be.  I'm blessed to have a good life and know it.  I have to admit, some of my appreciation for my life was a result of dealing with cancer a couple of years ago....but that was one of the silver linings to that particular "life cloud."  

I'm in my mid-50's.  I'm loved, I love in return, I'm glad to be alive....and I think I'll find that the best is yet to come!

Activities

My interests are varied and include, cribbage, reading, travel, camping, cross-stitch, listen to music, cook, watch an occasional movie, and water aerobics with a VERY aptly named local group called "Lumpy Ladies". I enjoy my family and friends, and find I need a certain amount of "alone" time whether I am in a relationship or not. I also play the flute, after a 30+ year hiatus (and that's getting better all the time!)

Easy listening....all types. Some rock/pop. Favorite male vocalists are Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli. Favorite instrumentalists include Kenny G, and Yanni.

Favorite TV Shows

None. At one time I watched a lot more tv, so I can talk about some series I've enjoyed, but I view most of them now as time wasters!

Favorite Movies

Same Time Next Year, Good-bye, Mr. Chips, War of the Worlds (both versions), Love Actually.

Favorite Books

I tend to talk more of authors...I find one I like and read all their books: Grisham, Cussler, Karon, Rowlings, Dickens, King, Koontz, Palmer. I like the laughter from Far Side, Garfield, and Sloane Tanen books. Local humorist Chad Carpenter's Tundra is also good.

Favorite Quotes

Not necessarily in this order: 1. What you dare to dream, dare to do. 2. Grow. 3. Do life. 4. You can please some of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time... especially when some of them are after your job.
