Hi darlings!
Here's the short version: I'm a pro, free-lance writer with tons of credits. I also have several fiction and non-fiction projects cooking. SOOOO, please contact me if you are an agent ( who doesn't have hornets for brains, I've had one of those already), publisher or use writers on a contract basis and I'll be happy to point you to clips of my work that are available on-line and send you my bio and references.
I'm a visual artist ( please check out some samples of my work under the photo section), too, and I am happy to discuss possible commissions; I'm also looking for gallery representation. So what do I write about? I've covered everything from fashion to UFOs, but over the past decade or so I've written the most about science, health and medicine.
I also founded and produce an off-center humor/satire web site, The Brazen Hussies, that has been rolling along now for over 11 years! The Rotterdam Times once compared moi to Mae West, which was a thrill...
Here's the longer version in case you want to find out more about my writing: My work has been widely published; I lost count at about 3,000 features, interviews, articles, and columns in everything from Newsweek and Yoga Journal to Health and Psychology Today. I'm currently a contributing writer for Mamm magazine ( for women who have or have had reproductive cancers), as well. I am perhaps best known as a contributing editor for (the late and lamented) OMNI; I wrote regularly for that science magazine for about sixteen years.
When OMNI ceased publication, I continued to write feature stories for OMNI’s Internet edition (until it was closed down as well in l998 following the death of publisher/editor Kathy Keeton). I hosted a web show for OMNI Internet, called "Infinities," on which I interviewed scientists working in a variety of fields from astronomy to genetics. And I was a chief contributor to the book OMNI's Catalogue of the Bizarre, as well.My additional writing experience includes working, on a project basis, as a research producer for the television series "Unsolved Mysteries" for two seasons. In l998 and l999, I wrote a series of several dozen scripts for SRA, a division of McGraw/Hill. These were educational videos on the life sciences slated for elementary school audiences. (Before my writing work took up so much of my time, by the way, in my younger and wackier days I I worked in the film and TV industry in various capacities --- including as a location manager, location scout, production assistant and more.)I also wrote the annual report for the CDC Foundation and I produced a book length project for former President Jimmy Carter, The Democratization of Latin America and the Caribbean. My professional accolades include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in arts criticism and the Harrison Rogers Journalism Award for excellence in medical feature writing. In addition, I wrote the Emory Healthcare marketing brochure “Heart and Soul” (incorporating true-to-life patient stories to communicate information about cardiovascular care) which took first place in the healthcare system brochure designation of the 18th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards in 2001, beating out 3,200 other entries. In 2005, a story I wrote about children and diabetes for Atlanta Parent magazine was awarded the top feature gold award by the Parenting Publications of America Association. I've been interviewed on well over 100 radio shows about various articles I've written, too.
I live in Atlanta with my wonderful teen son, two spoiled rotten dogs and a spoiled rotten cat.
I hope to eventually -- sooner than later -- live part of the time at the beach and part of the time in the mountains and also have a pied à terre in town (after all, I'm a city girl!). Thankfully, I can write and paint anywhere.I am a true free spirit and I love working for myself. Every day is a joy! I'm a fiscal conservative and a Jeffersonian democrat ( small "d") with Libertarian leanings -- in other words, I'm a true Independent. I am staunchly opposed to the Neo-con ( emphasis on "con") regime and,in fact, felt like a voice crying in the wilderness when I wrote against the unwarranted invasion of Iraq before it happened. In the words of two of my favorite American heroes:"Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both." --Benjamin Franklin"All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." -- Thomas JeffersonThese sentiments have inspired me to continue to fight for our Bill of Rights and Constitution and to speak out and protest when possible ( see pics of a recent fabo peace march in my profile photos)!Other personal stuff: I'm looking for a Cary Grant clone... le sigh.Smooches,Sher"Age doesn't matter unless you are cheese." -- Dorothy Parker"It's ok letting yourself go if you can get yourself back again." -- Mick Jagger
