Places I've been

I've lived lots of places...was born in Colorado; moved to Massachusetts; then to Phoenix; then San Diego, then to Virginia (all before I was 6 years old!!!) I lived there til college; then to Ohio (Columbus College of Art/Design); moved to San Diego; then to Arizona; back to California (near Santa Barbara) finally stopped moving when I got to Austin Tx in 1993. WHEW! I'm all tuckered out just thinking about it :o) 2007-2008 : I've travelled to California twice, took my first cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel and was able to go to Australia and visit a cousin in April--the trip of a lifetime! I LOVE LOVE LOVE travel and hope to do much more! 2009: California, New York

More about me

  I am the youngest of 5..grew up in one place but most of my sibs moved around alot, since my dad was a career army officer. Mom was a banker. We travelled to visit relatives often (both parents were New Yorkers) and loved those times. I have always been artistic and creative..growing up near DC was great to expand on those horizons. My dad made sure that I was able to enjoy many artistic venues.  Dad loved to sing and act, mom loved to write and was a fabulous homemaker and interested in many things. They both had a great, sharp sense of humor, which we all inherited :o) 

 The past few years have been utterly profound in so many ways...since 2005, I have watched my only child leave the 'nest', witnessed my oldest sister battle ovarian cancer, became the primary caregiver of both parents , moving them out from AZ to a rental home next door to mine here in the Austin area, had the honor of being by my sister's side as she made her transition from this earth on December 21, 2006; then my mother left this world the following April 13, 2007...I continued caring for my father, who was 90 when he passed away January 8, 2008...24 hours after my oldest brother died in Arizona. It has been quite an odyssey and I feel as though I am emerging from a cave, just beginning my life again. The grieving process is a long one...strange and beautiful with so many hills and valleys. I think I will be 'digesting' the deeper meaning of all that has happened for quite some time. My family has always been my source of friendship and comfort and now, forging ahead through the wilderness it becomes a challenge to keep my spirits up. But, I also know it is a new day and the best is yet to come. I miss them each and every day--I also lost another sister in December 1996, so now out of the 5 of us, there is only myself and my brother left.

On a brighter note, my first grandbaby is due July 26..such a blessing and so much joy to come. We are so grateful to have a celebration of life to look forward to.

UPDATE: My world has become a much brighter place since my darlin' girl had her OWN darlin' girl...my first grandsweetie, Felicity Christine, was born on August 1 at 4:27 a.m. We are so blessed with this joyous healing in our lives~

UPDATE: Grandsweety #2 is on the way! My daughter is due in mid November :o) 

UPDATE: Courtland Grant was born on November 11--then my daughter and SIL moved away on Dec. 1--life is strange without them nearby~

 

Activities

I love the arts and enjoy patronizing them when I can. Enjoy day trips around the hill country, poking around in antique shops, flea markets. I love to go to lakes, rivers, oceans..very therapeutic.

Favorite Charities

Hospice is a wonderful organization and it has helped me immensley in the past few years.

Favorite Music

I LOVE music of pretty much all types, living in Austin is great because we hear such wonderfully diverse artists regularly (ie, Norah Jones came here years before she hit it "big")..currently I really like Ruthie Foster, Death Cab for Cutie, Raul Malo, Madeleine Peyroux, Ben Harper, Regina Spektor, Leslie Fiest; love the older groups like Moody Blues, ELO, Fleetwood Mac; listen to smooth jazz often as well as other jazz artists...won tix a few years back to Pat Matheny and got to meet him too..was unreal!! Anyway, about the only music I don't care for is country/western and hip-hop/rap.

Favorite TV Shows

I try to watch PBS, history channel, A & E mostly, but I do have my guilty pleasure and that is (ashamed to admit it) "Desperate Housewives"...LOL I never before watched a soap opera but I got hooked on that one :o)

Favorite Movies

"Raising Arizona"; "Lost in America"; "Defending your Life"; love to laugh..can you tell?? I'm sure there are more I can't remember. I have very eclectic tastes.

Favorite Books

Oh my...too many to name. As for authors, I like Anne Tyler for fiction, have read alot of spiritual books (been very interested in mindful living). I usually have several books going at once, but I tend to have trouble remembering books/titles.

anywhere near water; lived in central Ca (near Santa Barbara) and it was so beautiful; Hawaii; would love to go back to Europe as an adult and visit Greece, Italy and anywhere else.

I love my dogs...I had only 2 cats in my life...I am more of a dog person for sure.
