More about me

After 26 years in the Indiana public schools, enough was enough and I walked out the door, slamming it behind me and burning my bridges pretty thoroughly.  Fortunately, the community college wanted me, and I've been teaching writing there for the past six years and loving it more with each passing day.

I am also a professional writer with One by One Media, with several clients for whom I blog and write articles.

I'm very active with BlogHer, and am a contributing editor/writer/blogger for the Mommybloggers, TwitterMoms, Work It Mom!, Bloggers for Hire, Texas Pepper Jelly, EcoSmart Repellem, Wireless Picture Frames, Wireless Digital Signage, Freight & Shipping, Inc., Steve Spangler Science, and Blog World Expo.

As far as I'm concerned, "retirement" is a dirty word.  I can't even imagine not working hard at something, every day.  I don't watch TV; I don't listen to the radio (except for a few podcasts and uStreams my friends and I do), and I haven't subscribed to a newspaper or magazine for years.  They're too expensive, too full of moronic ads, and too full of spelling and grammar mistakes.

I'm a huge maven of Social Media, and that doesn't mean merely Facebook and Twitter.

I play my music really loudly, and I'm not doing at all well with this "empty nest" thing.  I loathe peace and quiet, and when people start conversing about politics or the economy, I have to work hard not to yawn in their faces.

I love music, books, Social Media, the internet, Twitter, YouTube, blogging, noise, crowds, and cooking.  I bake bread for several local restaurants.

If you intend to talk about Depends, AARP, social security, assisted living facilities, Miss Clairol, or Porcelaina, and not much else, please include me out.

Great attitude and great advice. We have to balance the hard work with some fun times. I think, the toughest part of teaching is getting up in the morning and working on ways to motivate students everyday. I teach at a high school and not all the kidos take their academic responsibilities seriously, but the main thing is to show them you care anyway. Thanks for the post.
