My husband and I celebrated our 50th anniversary this past October, 2008.  On July 19, 2009 (3 weeks ago) he lost his battle with Parkinsons Disease after 3 weeks in ICU.  We have three  grown kids.....2 boys and 1 girl.  Between them, they have given us seven grandkids......4 boys and 3 girls. I couldn't have gotten through this last month without every single one of them.

Right now I'm just trying to adjust to living alone....not easy after living with a man for over 50 years. My days so far have consisted of writing thank you notes, and making phone calls to Social Security, IPERS, etc.  I can't believe all the information they require. 

Five years ago we moved out of our home which we had built in 1966.  My husband had suffered a heart attack and had triple by-pass surgery the year before.  Because he also suffered with Parkinsons, we decided it was time to make a change.  It was a very difficult decision, but I'm glad now that we made it.  I sit on our deck and watch our lawn being mowed by someone else, and watch the deer, which seem to think my hostas are their very own personal salad bar. 

I like to knit which I will probably do a lot of now.....especially this winter.  I recently decided a good way to use up left-over yarn was to make hats for chemo patients and newborns, which I take to a local hospital.  I have also done quite a lot of genealogy work and have "met" several cousins in the process.

I know it's going to take time to heal, but right now, it seems like I never will.  I have my kids and grandkids, and that's reason right there to keep things going, but I know I will never get over missing him.
