About

More about me

c. 2009 Kai
I am from northern Michigan, on the Lake.  I loved it there and still visit whenever I can.

I am married, with one fabulous son who is just starting his career in finance.  I live in a mostly rural area, on a small farm - just under 2 acres.  We keep chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and cats.  We are currently without dogs, having just lost both of our beloved little Pomeranians, days apart.  We have a large vegetable garden, a small orchard and berry patches.  Most flowers and grasses are in containers, on the deck and tucked in around the ponds and hanging in trees.  I have a small herb garden, and also grow kitchen herbs in pots on the deck.

Our wildlife variety is increasing - regular visitors include deer, red tail hawk, possums and raccoons, skunks, fox, coyote and our newest, a mountain lion.  Our ponds are not large enough to host the sandhill cranes, great blue herons and white egrets - they stick to the larger ponds down the road.  I like to watch them though.  Bats inhabit the abandoned cookstove chimney at the back of the house, and we like to watch them dart about at twilight.   Whew!  That's alot of action in one back yard!

I love that my backyard is private and lush.  We have let nature have its way around the perimeter of our land, and it is like living in a secret forest clearing.

We do like to travel, and our favorite places are the coasts of the Carolinas, and the mountains of Tenessee.  If we feel in the mood for city life, we visit New York, Charleston or Toronto.  Flying has become such a hassle these days that it has taken the fun out of air travel for us, so we are big drivers.  Of course the advantage of that is the journey is now the destination!  We also travel on our Harley, and are planning a big trip next year.  For now, we mainly go on day trips.  It really surprised me that I enjoy it as much as I do.  It is a very zen activity.

My travel dreams include a long leisurely stay in Paris, or a beachfront hut on Bora Bora.

We are tent campers, explorers of parks and backroads.  I am never lost, just looking at something I hadn't expected to see -and that can be a very interesting development.

I am an antique dealer, artist and writer.  I have recently returned to photography, and am finding it a very satisfying art form.  Digital has made all the difference, and set my imagination free.

Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials.

The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery.

To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.
