OK, About me...I am a realist, non-practicing Registered Nurse who moved to CT from NJ in September of 2006. I came to help with the preparations and birth of my first grandchild AND because a long term combination of disabilites prevented me from remaining independant in NJ. I feel lucky that my daughter and her husband opened up their home to me in my time of need. I really love CT...the terrain is breathtaking! The people I have met are friendly and helpful. As I made my new life here, I was pretty much a stay-at-home person coping with my medical conditions that were diagnosed as chronic. I came to eons initially to try to keep my brain cells. I have joined some of the groups here and am happy to find my new online community. In Jan of 2008 I was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer that had metastasized to my spine. (Ha, so much for the word chronic!) After back surgery, radiation and chemo, chemo and more chemo, I have learned to look at my present state of disabilty as a gift. I am partially paralazed and am pretty much confined to a wheelchair but I am able to walk a very short distance with a cane...this after a full year of PT and hard work. I never thought I would be able to retire (can any of us boomers ever retire???) so I think of my SSDI as my retirement fund and when added to my real retirement plan, I am financially better off now than when I was working 3 part time jobs in NJ. Really. My cancer has taught me a great lesson...to be positive instead of negative. I thank it for that every day.
