Hello all. I just came across this group and am hoping it is a site where we can post our experiences with these rides. I personally am not a diabetic, but adult-onset runs in both my family and my husband's. My brother-in-law was diagnosed two weeks ago after presenting to the ER with a blood sugar of over 600. I also live on the edge of the Navajo Nation, and bordered by three other tribes. Diabetes and obesity is a huge problem for these folks. So, this has become my mission to see what I can do in some little way involving by passion for cycling.
I am extremely proud to say that we, the Four Corners area, is hosting our first Tour de Cure! As an avid cyclists I have been trying and dreaming of bringing a major ride to my wonderful little part of the world. Can't get much more of a major ride that TdC, right? Nor a more perfect one for this area. I am so excited I about can't stand myself!I will write another post in a few days and keep all up to date.
I have never been to one of these rides, so all is new, and so exciting. And, as an organizer.....a bit overwhelming, but in a good way. We have been invited to Albuquerque this coming weekend for their ride to see just how things go along. The following weekend I am going to Brigham City, Utah with a good friend to actually participate in theirs.
So, the adventure begins for me ---- and the unsuspecting souls I have conjured along who are still my friends ---- and am tickled to death to know there is somewhere I can share it with.
GoodLightscraps.com to Coping With Diabetes. We are glad you joined us and we're looking forward to getting to know you. Please make yourself at home. We are all in the Diabetes boat together and it really helps if we all paddle together. Sandy
