There are different "schools" on skintone. I prefer (2) dark/light pinks and predominantly dark yellow ochre mixed in so the skin doesn't appear too pink. All humans on the planet regardless of culture have a 2nd layer of skin under the epidermus. It's yellow. Look it up. :)

I used a palette knife for this series of paintings and large brushes. The gazing (mostly for the background is pretty new to me and I love the depth you can get with it. thanks for the comment.

Thank you. No. I draw them in with a wood burning pen and then just shade them with it. When I add the color I sometimes darken the areas I want to recede and leave other areas lighter to push them forward. Its all pretty flat in actuality.

i am undecided what color to paint the shaded highlights. maybe a purple blue shade? i am tired tonight and i will try tomorrow night.
i am not happy with the shading under the middle leaf. i think it looks to black and not grey green. what do you guys see>

do you know what i found out when i went to take this pic. the canvas did not lay down level on the table. not squared ugh

I was looking at this a few more times...the only suggestion I would meke is to darken the area below the butt almost like it is below that big rock.

I don't think I would change a thing. I like the kind of abstract quality of the sedum and I like the colors of the leaves just as they are. Glad to hear though that other artists get sick of working on a piece --I thought it was only me.

i laugh ... what am i trying to go for?
answer> just to get this painting out of my hair.
i started with a disaster and it needs a whole lotta fixin.
about time of day.... i understand. the sun is trying to set so the light source needs to be in the correct part of the painting
and i dont' think it is coming from the left
