Winters in northern rural Michigan can be long and bleak, but I learned a decade ago that the internet can help you transcend the darkness and ice.  I've made some great friends in faraway places and learned about different lifestyles and viewpoints.  The magical thing about friendships is the more you have, the more room in your heart for more.
