I'm happily retired after two careers, one as a public hospital administrator and a second career as a public school administrator. You might be surprised how many similarities there are in those two fields.
My wonderful wife of 39 years is also retired from a career as a public school teacher. We are both active in the Master Gardener program, in fact, she is the currrent coordinator of our local county program. After many years of dealing with Boards and top level admin., I avoid the politics and stick to the more fun stuff like volunteering to work with the school kids and local gardeners and the Zoo education programs.
I took up pottery after I retired because I had never been able to spend anytime "in the arts" and I really enjoy it. I've become fairly adept at throwing ceramics on the wheel but I also hand-build pieces as well. I'm far from considering myself an accomplished artist but I'm beginning to appreciate some of the finer points.
Two years ago I also took up beekeeping as a retirement hobby. Honey bees are pretty fascinating critters and there is always more to learn about them. I'm helping our local city government get bee colonies established on some city-owned "open space".
By the way, "beek' is a slang term that beekeepers call themsleves.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather one should skid in sideways at the last moment , chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO what a ride!'
