My Screenplay Turns Into A Real Movie! July 19, 2008 - Chestnut Hill, MA

Not all would-be screenwriters are as lucky as I am. One of my first short screenplays I ever wrote, "A Last Resort" (based on an earlier short story) was turned into an actual independent film this summer! An honest-to-god producer, director and actors along with various other crew converged on the Boston Law School campus' historic Barat House on July 19, 2008 to film the movie which will air for approximately ten minutes. The outdoor scenes were shot a month earlier in southern New Hampshire. The script is set in a fictional medieval country at war. A young king whose childhood is cut short must govern and command his army. Shown here: the principal actors: King Philip; Roo; Seymour; General Longstreet.

Miami Beach Vacation December 24, 2007 -

Ariel and I traveled to Miami Beach for a couple of days in the sun over the Christmas break.

LISA Conference November 10, 2007 - Dallas, Texas

I attended the annual Large Installation Systems Administration Conference sponsored by USENIX. This year's conference was held at the Hyatt-Regency in downtown Dallas, Texas. More info at view link.

Boston College 2007 Community Service Award May 23, 2007 - Chestnut Hill, MA

This past week, I was honored with the prestigious 2007 Community Service Award at a recognition dinner on May 23, 2007. University President William P. Leahy, S.J. and Thomas Keady, Vice President for Governmental Community Affairs presented the award to me at a banquet with approximately 100 invited guests, university officials and other honorees in attendance. Marco Island, Florida 2006 - Marco Island, Florida

In February, 2006 I accompanied Ariel to the "Advances in Genome Biology & Technology Conference" at the Marco Island Marriott Resort on Marco Island, Florida. It's a tough job, but someone had to go along and lend moral support.

Des Moines Trip 2006 - Des Moines, IA

I accompanied Ariel on a job interview trip to Des Moines October 1-3, 2006. Fortunately, the job was not offered to her! Ironically, I got to see Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts up close for the very first time. He was staying at our hotel. Kerry was apparently beating the bushes for potential support for an '08 presidential run. Shown here: Fort Des Moines.

Family Visit to Arizona 2006 - Phoenix, AZ

A long weekend visit this past July to Phoenix to see my sister, brother-in-law, and their children. We also took a trip north to the mountains and Show Low, AZ to see the lot where Neva Jo and Mark are planning to build their new home. I sat outside in 110 degree weather just to see what it was like!

LISA Conference, San Diego 2005 - San Diego, CA

I attended the 19th LISA System Administration Conference December 4-9, 2005 in sunny San Diego! It's quickly becoming my favorite town to visit! Unlike the conference I attended here two years ago, this LISA did not feature air-laden ash, the result of a catastrophic wildfire that consumed half of San Diego county during our stay. No, this time the air was free of pollutants. I really got a kick out of the karaoke bar at Kelly's Steakhouse. On Tuesday night I finally overcame my cowardliness and joined the small, intimate group surrounding the piano man.

Newport, R.I. 2005 - Newport, R.I.

I joined Ariel for a couple of days at a toxicology conference in Newport, R.I. We stayed in a very ritsy Hyatt Regency on Hog Island. Newport is a beautiful, historic town.
