  • In Uganda with Idi Amin Dada! June 1, 1975 - Kampala, Uganda

I arrived in Uganda about June 1, 1975 to work as an underground missionary. I can't go into all the details. If you watch 'Last King of Scotland' you can get a feel for Uganda at that time. I was there until September 1978. That includes 3 days in prison, as 'guest' of Idid Amin's State Research Bureau.

  • Baltimore Orioles win their first World Series October 9, 1966 - Baltimore, MD

I was just starting my last year of High School. Everybody in Baltimore was Bird-crazy, especially after the team acquired Frank Robinson in the off season. By Sept. 24 they had won their first American League pennant (it was also the first year the Yankees had come in last)! They were playing the dreaded LA Dodgers in the World Series. Very few people remember that the last game Sandy Koufax pitched was a loss to the Orioles in that Series. The Os swept the Boys in Blue in 4 games and we were in Paradise.

  • You Mighty Colts of Baltimore! December 28, 1958

The Baltimore Colts beat the New York Giants (in Yankee Stadium) for its first NFL Championship. This game is often called 'The Greatest Game Ever Played'. It is still the only overtime NFL championship game and put professional football on track to dethrone baseball as America's Favorite Sport. It was also the beginning of the legend of Johnny Unitas, still the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

  • Mother's Death May 19, 1957 - Baltimore, MD

My mother had been having problems with her heart for over a year. I still remember that Sunday she died. I was just 8 years old. She was 50.

  • Birthday January 19, 1949 - Baltimore MD

How many are familiar with the Poe Toaster? He is the mystery man who comes every year to Poe's Grave in Downtown Baltimore and leaves 3 roses and a bottle of cognac. That mysterious visit was first recorded in 1949. That is my exact birthday. I was born about 20 blocks from Poe's Grave. It is now the last stop on my Historical Baltimore Tour. January 19 is also the birthday of Robert E. Lee, considered by some to be the greatest American General.
