On this day, my daughter Marisa and I departed Charleston, SC and headed for Germany to meet up with my military husband who had traveled prior to us. This day was the start of a new adventure which I knew would lead me to a new and wonderful life. I decided to ensure the proper education for my child[ren] I would do everything I could to guide her to being the best she could be. I began a stringent contingency to maintain a strict Kosher home so she would learn first hand the laws of the Torah. I knew this would be a challenge because the laws of Kashrut are extremely explicit. So instead of buying many prepared items from our commissary I found that to keep these laws, I would have to make everything fresh from scratch. I had always make a fair amount of homemade preparations to include homemade baby food, but being overseas presented a new challenge since their economies didn't offer as large a variety of Kosher items I could use. I literally reverted back to olden days so I could keep these special laws. I made everything homemade from mayonnaise to ketchup to bread to applesauce, etc. everything I could. Upon returning to the states, I was faced with a new challenge to maintain this life choice, but resolved it by simply reducing my meat intake and reserving the Sabbath to have a meal with Chicken, all others were converted to more vegetarian meals. I found this transformation quite encouraging as I found I not only felt better but I also seemed to have a higher energy level as well as a more enhanced immunity system. I learned as much as I could from books on herbology and put these lessons to use in my everyday life. This practice was utilized to aid in recovery from illnesses my children suffered as well as my husband, when he would oblige me, not to mention I was my star guinea pig. To my great surprise I find I am in very good health and rarely get even a common cold. If I do, it runs a much shorter cycle than friends and I don't have the major expenditure of over the counter products nor visits to the doctor. I pay close attention to my own body and have learned what is happening and how to combat any difficulties. I'm a little concerned now at this stage of my life since I am currently unemployed and am finding it more difficult to maintain that healthy lifestyle simply because I can no longer afford some of the items I need. This saddens me greatly because I realize I am not the only one suffering this catastrophe, that all seniors face this terrible dilemma and I pray someone will come to our aid. I wish we could get a medical system which would realize that our doctors only treat symptoms and what they should be attacking is the root of the problem. That would be the only way to eradicate the ailment for good. Getting back to basics is the only way to prolong a strong and productive life. The current drug companies are continually adding a new products to our markets which carry such severe side effects it makes me nervous to think that human beings are actually subjecting themselves to these awful repercussions.

At the age of 18, I gave birth to a girl whom I gave up for adoption. Not wanting to giver her up I gave her a name hoping I might find her again at some later date. Raising a child out of wedlock at that time was not accepted.

Sister, Joann, was born. Being much older now than with the first sister, I was super thrilled to have another little sister. Nancy didn't feel the same, though.
