I was the second daughter born to a young couple living in a coal mining town in southern West Virginia. My father, his father, his brothers, and everyone worked in the mines. It’s a very close community. Most of the people were related and everyone was very poor. As a child, I didn’t feel deprived. I felt rich, we had love in our home.
