It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a New Year…..Well, one week into the New Year, but it’s still new, right?
I have “weeded” out the membership of this group and hopefully, did not remove anyone who wants to be here. If I did remove you, please feel free to join again, and accept my apologies.
Let’s talk about writing. What is writing? Is it a novel, a biography, the Great American Novel? Or is it what you write down on a scrap of paper, hoping it’s going to work in your next book or poem? Or is it the journaling you do every day? Or every week? I think it’s all of those and I think all of them have a place in this group.
So, share your short stories, a chapter from your novel, a page from your journal, a thought for the day, a poem, a ditty, or something that’s circling in your head and needs a place to land.
I have started “Project Life 2012” which is an attempt to journal and photograph the ordinary and extraordinary events of my life in 2012. And I also journal my thoughts and the day’s happenings in a daily calendar book. It sounds like a lot of work, but it’s quite easy.
I just finished my “December Daily 2011” which was a journal of the season. It was so much fun that I wanted to keep going, so to speak. And so, I am taking pictures, jotting down notes, and saving the ephemera that we gather in everyday life.
What are YOU writing these days?

Afternoon in Biarritz
Afternoon in Biarritz
by
Steven Hunley
F. Scottt was looking at his shoulder, checking out his tan. Zelda was the first in the surf. Crazy Zelda anyway. She was such a risk taker. She found the page of the ‘mystery’ novel draped over the deck of a toy French battle ship, the 1928 Dunkerque Battle Cruiser out of Brest. It was a wooden model made to scale, bobbing up and down in the surf. Some captains of the French navy were at a meeting, got drunk on Cognac and stole it off the mantel from the officers’ club, and brought it to Biarritz to float in some kind of an experiment that the men were betting on. French sailors are big on gambling. They’d lost it in a rip current, and eventually it washed in near Zelda who was wading in the next hidden cove.

WOMAN GIVES BIRTH TO OCTOPUS
North Shore Hospital in Manhasset , New York has confirmed that in one of the most bizarre medical mysteries ever, a Mrs. Rachel Smith, of Great Neck has given birth to a 6 pound 5 ounce octopus. !!! Doctors here at the hospital are baffled, to say the least. The baby Octopus, named Octavia, has 3 hearts, four pairs of arms, and a healthy set of gills and lungs enabling Octavia to breathe in or out of water.
This is the first case of a human giving birth to a cephlapod on record on Long Island. Brooklyn, naturally has had a few. For those not familar with cross species breeding, there are numerous examples. They include the dog faced boy, the wolfman, the birdman of Alcatraz, the elephant man, a relative of Tarzan,(a monkey's uncle),Michael Jordan, Pee Wee Herman, and seedless watermelons.
Mrs. Smith has confessed of experimenting with injecting her body years ago when she was a hippie with drugs like LSD and mescaline. Perhaps drugs played a part in this incredible metamorphosis. Before doctors told her she was pregnant,(the father being one of several boyfriends).initial tests revealed a normal human fetus .Mrs. Smith had allegedly eaten some possible tainted calamari from Red Lobster right after her pregnancy was believed to have begun. . Scientists believe a DNA mutation infiltrated the placenta and was somehow absorbed resulting in the octopus embryo. Despite her sordid past,Rachel is a woman of strong religious beliefs. A moyel was present at the necessary cesarean delivery. He made the wise decision NOT to circumcise as Octavia came out...tentacles first.
Mrs. Smith has not yet decided to keep Octavia in a crib or an aquarium with her pet goldfish once Octavia is allowed to leave the hospital..within a day or two according to one of the top sturgeons,(I mean surgeons), here. Hopes for Octavia being in the special olympics is one of her mom's desires and to be a professor of icthyology when she grows up.

She was born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1890. After coming down with spinal tuberculosis at age five, she was strapped to a board for ten years to prevent hunchback, but the arduous treatment didn't work. She soared despite her body's limitations, attending Radcliffe, making friends, and buying a house in Maine as a refuge for friends and lovers. She died in 1942.

Getting to Wellness
Getting To Wellness
It's been sand storm rough
I am really weary of being tough
There's still no resolution
To the patient's persecution
Paper work, Paper cuts
Medical bill upon medical bill
Thought it finished...
But more to be done.
Surgery tommorrow...
But only if the others do their part.
All the results are not collected
Will I survive or quietly depart?
Will the appointment be scheduled?
Will they send a car?
Everyday the pain gets worse
The resolve begins to evaporate.
My only joy is penning words
My hope is prayer
My only solace is silence
My anchor: friends.
