Repose of Mary Travers
Mary Travers, of the 1960s folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, has died at age 72 died 16 September 2009, in a Danbury Connecticut hospital. She had lived for many years with leukemia. Ms. Travers had undergone a successful bone marrow transplant to treat her leukemia but was able to return to performing.
Born in Louisville, Ky, on 9 November 1936, Mary Allin Travers to parents who were both journalists. The family moved to Manhattan's bohemian Greenwich Village where Mary became acquinted with folk performers who were concentrated in that area. She made friends with artists like the Weavers, and was soon performing with Seeger, a founding member of the Weavers who lived in the same building as the Travers family.
Mary, along with her friends Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey joined their music with liberal politics as many performers did in that era. The trio spent seven months rehearsing in her Greenwich Village apartment before their 1961 public debut. In 1969, the group earned their final Grammy for “Peter, Paul and Mommy,” which won for best children’s album. They disbanded in 1971, launching solo careers. Ms. Travers released five albums.

I'm the editor of Woodstock Revisited, an anthology of personal Woodstock 1969 stories, and a reporter has requested a list of Woodstock-related events, particularly unusual ones. Anyone know of any? If so, please shoot me a message ASAP so I can let her know. We're hosting readings, particularly in the northeast, see www.woodstockstories.com for a list of events, and come out and share your story!
Happy upcoming anniversary everyone and thank you!

Anyone planning on celebrating 40th?
Woodstock's 40th anniversary is coming up this August. Would be fun to gather the stories and see where everyone is 40 years later. I wasn't there but have heard some amazing stories from people who did attend (or, are pretty sure they did :)
