For anyone who cares!

This group is for anyone who is a survivor, a caregiver, a friend, a loved one or still fighting the battle of cancer on their own!
We are here to offer prayer, support, advice and share experiences of hope for our sisters walking this path in their lives.
Please remember that we are not here to criticise anyone's treatment or offer "unsolicited" medical advice, but to offer a sympathetic ear of support.
Thanks to everyone who participates!
God Bless...

After 11 years its back

This has been quite a journey. I was cancer free almost exactly 11 years when I reached up and felt a lump under my left arm. I had breast cancer in 1997 and then had my left breast removed 6 years later because of family history and wanted to reduce my risk. Two months ago I felt the lump under my arm and now i am doing herceptin and taxol weekly. I have been interested in talking to others taking the same treatments. A friend of mine told me about eons tonight. I hope to hear from some of you soon. I do chemo every Thursday.

Breast Cancer

Hi everyone.

Take a look at my profile, and you will see a picture of me, with my hair growing out, was still in the middle of radiation.

If I can HELP anyone threw what there going though, or about to, have, please feel free to write to me.

I am a thriver, and continue to be a thriver.

2 days after my last radiation treatment, my mom, the person I came to everyday, was dignosed with lung cancer, her second battle with cancer. She lost her battle, about 6 months later.

Hope to help somebody..

Cancer

Hello to everyone. I was just looking and saw this site. I think it is great. In 2005 I was told I had ovarin cancer they remove it in October. In November I had 4 of the strongest dose they could give me.In December It was back again they did lazor surgery in January 2006. In late 2006 they found cancer in my right lung and it was in the finial stage. In January 2007 they removed the lower part of my right lung. This has been along battle. I go in June to get more test to see if cancer has come back. I am not upset because I know that God is with me for he has been there the hole time. He will see me through this.My way of dealing is never give up and always do the best you can My helpers are my mother who fought with cancer for 6years and never gave up. God has taken her home. God is my other helper I always look to him when I am down or just need someone to talk to.

a friend with cancer

She first discovered cancer in the liver by Dr. exam. Has had 2 surgeries, radiation and chemotherapy. Now, just newly dicovered "spots" in the liver. It is supposed to be a rare type. She was 1st discovered right after her twins were born.{ about 3-4 years ago}
I keep abreast of what is happening to her because of my own 6 month checkups.
Any advice of how to keep her spirits up?

Another Survivor

Hi, I just joined this group because when I saw it, I thought maybe something I say or even what I've been through might be a help to someone else. My story follows:

I was lying in bed one night and my hand fell cross my chest and I felt a LARGE lump. I didn't have to try and find it. I'm surprised I didn't know it was there, it was so obvious. The next day I called the doctor. A few days later I went in to see him. He said he thought it was just a cyst, nothing serious. He sent me to have it aspirated.

When I went to the next doctor, he said he wanted to do a mamogram before aspirating it so he could see it better. Get this . . . the mamogram DID NOT show it at all and you could feel it because it was the size of a nickle. Anyway, he couldn't aspirate it because nothing would come out. His comment before leaving the rooom was, "This is NOT a cyst." That's when it hit me that it really was cancer.

The first doctor, who specializes in that type of surgery, set me up for surgery. While in surgery, he had sent a biopsy to the lab, which is probably normal, and it came back positive. He didn't do a mastectomy, just a lumpectomy. He said he cut out a large portion around it to make sure he got all of the cancer. He thought he got it all.

After that, I had chemo for 6 months and radiation for 6 months simultaneously. As I went for these treatments, I saw that there were many, many people going through this thing terrible thing called cancer. I saw hopelessness iin their faces and fear. I didn't want to be that way . . . no one does. We have to have hope or we die.

It doesn't matter what doctors say is wrong with you or what the outcome may be predicted, you must have HOPE. I sang songs of my faith, read my scriptures EVERY day. I decided that I was going to be happy because I was going to rejoice! I did it all the way to the treatments, all the way to the doctor, and at home when I wasn't going anywhere.

Eventually, that rejoicing did make me happy. When I would go to the doctor or for treatments, sometimes the nurse would ask, "Are you sure you're sick? You look so good!" I would answer, "No, I'm not sure I'm sick."

I kept my mind on good things and higher things. I did as much as I possibly could to enjoy things, but when I was too tired, I rested. I didn't try to overdo it. When the treatments were over, I was soooo glad.

It's now been 12 years! I'm still cancer free and enjoying life. The best thing, they tell me, is to avoid stress as much as possible. Well, that's not always possible, but sometimes it can be done. Stress is not good for us. It is a contributor to cancer.

I haven't meant to bore you or be too long winded. I just hope someone can be encouraged or helped in some way by what I've shared.

God bless you and keep you.

1 year breast cancer survivor

Glad to find this group. Had lumpectomy and now taking Arimedex for the next 5 years. Believe in God's healing of not only physical, but spiritual. Every 6 months mammogram, following the 30 Rx's of radiation. " Do What Ya Gotta Do"
Have learned re:the ratings on the radiologists's Birands terminology. Advice from me...learn until you get an answer OR just say "See you next time" trusting Jesus.
