Anyone trying anything new or different?

All of a sudden I have found myself gravitating toward zinfandels....now this isn't a new or strange wine - but for me it's definitely different - and I'm really enjoying the jammy bold flavors a whole lot!

How about you all? Anyone trying something that for them is new and different?

New Year's Eve

Happy New Year to all you wine experts!

Anyone ringing in the new year with some bubbly?

We are going out this year to The London Club here in Crystal Lake, Illinois, with our favorite wine drinking couple and best of friends. Can't wait. The expense will be worth it. The package includes a dinner, a live band, and a champagne toast with favors at midnight, but no liquor. We are on our own to buy bottles of wine or by the glassfuls. Oh well, I will just sip, savor, and "milk" my wine all night long. Hopefully, I will also get to do some dancing, how about you all?

What are you drinking?

It's almost November.....and in my neck of the woods it's darker earlier and colder.....

I'm starting to look for heartier reds......

How about you all?

How do you decide?

As I was cooking dinner tonight (a squash tarte) I was trying to decide what wine I wanted to go with it -

this time I consulted a book I keep in the kitchen with the cook books called What to Drink with What You Eat......it's an interesting guide that takes foods alphabetically and gives potential wine pairing suggestions and then takes wine varietals alphabetically and gives food pairing suggestions....this time for butternut and acorn type squash it suggested (among other things) a buttery chard, californian (which I happened to have one of so I decided to do it).....

How do you decide what to drink with what you eat? Do you plan your wine around your food, your food around your wine or do you just wing it and go with whatever you feel like (and I confess, I've done and still do all three depending on the day, the meal and the mood....)

Red, white, rose and.....orange?

Ever heard of orange wine? I hadn't really until I looked at this blog - apparently these are white wines that emerge from their fermentation on the grape skins with a rich, sometimes orange, hue.

Here's the link to the blog if anyone is interested in reading more.....there's also a list of different wines.......I'm not sure of the price ranges - but I may have to see if I can find an orange wine just to see what it's like!
