I don't like those awards shows. Soon we will see the culmination of the hype when finally the Oscars and Emmys are given out. The people with the cases of the "see me" will be seen awarding themelves a silly statue, trophy, for doing their job. I don't know any other profession other than sports where one gets a trophy or that much glory for simply doing a great job. The problem is that the public is gaga over those vain and shallow people that such people are encouraged to be even more so.

I hope Food Network or Cooking Channel, History Channel or one of those "cable" channels are running something good. Maybe we can watch a movie. Yeah that's it a movie. No that would only encourage them. Maybe I will just read a book will they slobber all over themselves and their eager fans drool at the mere sight of their idols.

Went to H&R Block to get taxes done. Got a refund last year, nothing has changed and now they say we owe nearly $1500 because taxes weren't taken out of my retirement income. They took them out before and nothing has changed. Called and now have to wait until I get a new PIN so they can access my account. Makes no sense to me but...will have to continue feeling like a big pile of crap until it can get straightened out. Just shoot me now and put me out of my misery.

We don't watch the SuperBowl because there is so much starchy filler that it takes forever. So.... we just recorded it and watched it today. We watched all the really fun commercials, the SPECTACULAR halftime show, all the significant plays, and did it all in less than an hour. Congrats to the winners, and the DVR.

I work for a national sales and marketing company as a merchandiser in supermarkets for a Waldbaum's team..part of the A&P family of supermarkets in NYC and Long Island. We do resets..basically moving products and shelving around,..to bring in new items,take out discontinued,etc..often needlessly extra unnecessary moves. Anyway..our current frozen plans we use for dinners and entrees means lots of products are pulled out and do not go back according to the store planogram,(instructions) we use.Some get reduced for sale..Others...to my disbelief are thrown away in the compactor.Our team coordinator issues the store credits for these items ..then has us or he dumps them.These are perfectly good foods..not damaged, not expired,just not in the planograms.Pizzas, ice cream,and dinners from Swanson, Boston Market, Marie Callender, Banquet, and others all get thrown out.We are not allowed to take any. I think it's a disgrace.Can't they be donated to a charity or food shelter? People are in need of food all over the city? Why dump it? So what if the store gets credit? I want to write to some local papers but I'm afraid I will lose my job if I do. Who am I to take on A&P? It's just wrong. So I work every day frustrated with this stupidity that goes on. Any suggestions?

Dang, I wish it would just snow and get it over with, or don't snow. We had around seven inches of snow, then we had some rain that really mashed it down; then the temps stayed under 25 for a couple of days and froze the whole mess, and now it's got another couple of inches of snow on it. I have to wear cleated boots just go walk out to the trash can. Now, it's snowing today again, and it's supposed to be in the 40's for a couple of days this week. GEEEEEEEEZE

I hate to admit it, but I'm fascinated by the reality shows like the 'Real Housewives of Wherever'. Their behavior is unbelievable in many cases, especially since they are friends, and adults, and fight with each other like mean teenage girls. Now, I think the thing that fascinates me the most is that they are on TV and MILLIONS of people see their behavior and they must know that the producers egg things on and film the worst of their behaviors. Who would want their worst behavior immortalized on TV and DVD?

It's like hanging out all your dirty laundry and then putting a big neon sign pointing to it; didn't these people have grandmas who told them that fools names and fools faces are always seen in public places???

And how real is that behavior? I think it's greatly exaggerated and played to the cameras. I once had an anthropology professor who said that true anthropology doesn't exist; once you study a culture, you change it.

I DESPISE being accosted by people trying to "sell" stuff or get donations outside stores.

Yesterday, I was going into Walmart (which I do very little these days), and was talking to my husband when I realized there were two adult men standing by the door with a rack of boxes behind them and literature in their hands. I nearly went home!

Hubby insisted we finish our business, so we TRIED to go in, but these men insisted on interrupting our conversation to which I said, "No," and walked into the store. I feel no compunction to say more to these types of people (unless they are little kids, of course).

Yet, these adult men were "selling" something and I never did find out what it was. They even stopped me again on my way out of the store saying "Do you have time now for us?" For which they received a blank look, a shake of my head, and I walked away.

IF I wanted to contribute to these people, I'd find THEM and do so......but in this economy especially, it just feels wrong to accost people in front of a store where they're probably being very careful not to break their personal family budget.

It just pisses me off.......

Now, I give to a number of charities, but I have learned that it is necessary to look up something about the charity before you give because some have amazingly low payout to the cause they "support". I also think it is important that people support charities - but::

What pisses me off is that since charities are exempted from the "do not call" list, I get inundated with calls for "sound alike" charities who claim I gave to them before and just want me to do it again because the poor [fill in the blank] need the support. I know I haven't given to a charity with that particular name and the caller is a "call center" that reformed itself around charities that are willing to pay for donations. I get calls from dozens of "veterans" charities, dozens of "police" organizations, dozens of calls from "cancer" organizations. I gave to a few, but that just opened the flood gates and I get a call or more a month from those I did give to with their "new" annual appeal. They all are good at laying guilt trips on people, and if you don't send you payment in "quickly" they dunn the hell out of you. I have resorted to just hanging up.

Does that make me a grinch??

Well, looks like the patron saint of bad eating habits had come clean that she has diabetes. Wow... how did that happen? Paula Deen may be the country's number one personal consumer of butter and sugar, but she may have to stop eating her own cooking. Now, even though she's promoted unhealthy eating for years and years, she is now promoting a diabetes drug... anybody see anything funny about that?

Having said that, why are people so mad at her? Did anybody really think that her cooking was healthy cooking? So, if you ate all the junk that she cooks would you not expect to gain weight and be unhealthy from it? Some of her fans say that they feel 'betrayed' by her withholding info about her diabetes... really? Why is it any of anybody's business? Don't you get tired of people idolizing celebrities and then blaming celebrities for their own stupidity?
