Williamsburg visit
This damn Yankee has been going to Williamsburg every year for 15 years now and here I go again- will spend Dec 7th to the 14th there- found out my timeshare has a use it or lose it week but where else would I choose to go? I cannot wait to walk around the Colonial section again, to sit on the hilltop behind the Governor's Palace and look down on the maze, to wander about the streets, have lunch at one of the Taverns- maybe Christiana's this time... all very peaceful and soothing :-)
Does anyone have a favorite spot, shop or special section they like and would recommend that I check out? I am always on the lookout for new adventures in Williamsburg as well as revisiting old favorites :-) I remember being impressed by the museum where I saw Duncan Phyffe's toolbox- I know I know I am weird but I like furniture and tools and woodcraft of any kind. I am also debating if I am going to try and stuff myself yet again at Captain George Seafood restaurant lol. I will check out the Pottery place out by Lightfoot again as well, although it seems to get more rundown every year, but I love those kind of odds and ends or junk store type places :-) and old bookshops- wow :) There is something too about walking about the Jamestown settlement and taking the mansion tours too :-)
I dont think I will ever get enough of this wonderful place- Williamsburg :-)
Peace,
Cath

Fun things I am finding out
I just saw the pic with the dogwood and realized that is another thing that makes me feel at home in VA- NJ and Virginia share the same state tree-the dogwood! When I was a little kid, I used to think that in the spring when the dogwoods bloomed all through the woods that it was snow on the branches :-D They are still my all time favorite tree.
It also seems to be a popular place for filming movies- Someone told me "Evan Almighty" was filmed here by Crozet, and sure enough, I see that view of the mountains everyday - love it. I was told "Small Soldiers" was filmed at the Miller School- I live off the Miller School Road, and boy, that is some amazing building :-)
Well, I will keep exploring my new haunts :-)
Peace

Not a native but it sure feels like home
Hi Everybody!
I am not a native Virginian, but it sure feels like home to me- I am a transplant from Bound Brook NJ to just outside of Crozet. I moved here to be closer to my son who took a job in Charlottesville at UVA five years ago. Best move either one of us ever made :-) I am so happy the home page featured this group- I was starting to feel pretty alone here in Eons :-)
I grew up in central NJ at the base of the Watchungs, so living in the foothills of the Blue Ridge with the same kind of woods is so wonderful now. About 15 years ago I went to Williamsburg on vacation, fell in love with it and have been making annual visits ever since. Most of those visits were by myself, and I spent a great deal of time wandering around there and Jamestown area- wow! So much history, so little time :-) Must have lived there in a previous life - lol.
Maybe it was just the affinity I felt because I grew up on a street were there was a revolutionary war encampment- Camp Middlebrook- and it was also the place were the Betsy Ross Flag first flew over the Continental Army three days after being adopted by Congress. Ok, enough history for now- I am looking forward to discovering and exploring the Charlottesville area history now :-)
Peace,
Cath
