HUGE NEWS!
Hello everyone! I've been gone forever, I know it. I'm sorry for the neglect. But as a way to show you I mean it, you will find in our FILES folder the first of the BBC's "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" radio series. I will post the rest as I get them.
I hope you like it!

a funny group
Okay, this is going to be really cheesy but I just clicked on a group where you can write your own captions to other people's funny pictures. I just thought there were some funny people amongst our little 9 that might be great at lampooning strangers. It's called Top the caption. or Top my caption. I don't remember which at the moment. I wrote a couple of really bad ones.
Another non-hitchhiker post
So, I was talking science-fiction with a friend who brought up the fact that "Heroes" starts its second season on Monday. Any of you into that show? I watched a few episodes when it was on and now have seen them all courtesy of Netflix. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself though there seemed an inordinate number of wannabe-cliffhangers. Just curious if anyone else will be tuning in.
No minor characters
I was thumbing through some books trying to think of a new post for the group. I happened to come across a few characters that I personally love but who only pop up once or twice in the Adams' books. Here are just a few that I can't get enough of.
Zippo Bibrox 5x10^8 [the judge at the krikkit war tribunal]
Colin the security robot [who is made, by Ford Prefect, to be blissfully happy]
Rob McKenna [the truck-driving rain god]
How about the rest of you?

Third arm or just happy to see me?
Okay. So, Zaphod's got three arms, right? But why and how long has he had it?
1. He grew it to help him improve his ski-boxing. [H2G2 book]
2. He had it, even in school [H2G2 radio, tertiary phase]
3. He had it and then got rid of it but then grew it back for Trillian [H2G2 radio, quintessential phase]
Anyone else?

The universe going Foom!
So it occurred to me that DA gave many different reasons why the earth may have been destroyed. Here are a few [these are from movies/radio/TV/books/etc]
1. To make way for a hyperspace bypass. [books/radio]
2. For the psychological community because they didn't want the answer to get out. "it's about demarcation!" [books/radio]
3. Because a very dangerous personality prototype had escaped there [young Zaphod plays it safe].
4. Because Zaphod thought he was signing an autograph and not a destruction approval [movie]
Can anyone think of any others? DA loved switching up his story lines.
Next time we'll talk about Why Zaphod has a third arm.

Names
So I've got a question for you all. Adams seems to have been one of those writing savants that could create names of people/planets/races/cultures/cities/ etc. that had either completely awkward pronunciations or that were just kind of strange but everyone went with them. Why is this? What is it about the fact that we can take a name like Slatribartfarst or Happy-world III? But you name one character John Smith and people jump all over you? Is it the medium? Was it the fact that his work is seen by many as chiefly comedy and he's given a free pass? I find myself not even missing a beat when I hear the name Zippo Bibrox 5x108. Is there just a jump in my brainwave patterns?
[PS: I probably spelled all those names wrong]
