Playing around with one Photo
I played around with some of the different filters to just get a little more comfortable with how things work with Gimp and what you can do. I uploaded a photo and then made duplicate images so I could try the different filters and some other choices. Later on, when I get more comfortable with layers, I can probably do it that way instead. Sure wish they had a version that worked on my desktop!
I'm going to post some examples in the first couple of replies.

Installing Gimp on a Mac
Downloading and Installing Gimp for Windows is fairly easy, but more complicated if you use a Mac. You need to install x11 first in order to run the Gimp program. x11 comes on the 10.5 cds and some of the 10.4 cd's.
If you have a newer version of the Mac OS, you can view this tutorial to learn how to download and install Gimp. - The GIMP How to download - view link www.youtube.com/watch?v=JePWp3qhi6M If you use Mac OS version 10.4 (tiger) and have your install disc, you can try installing x11 from your disc and then download and install Gimp as the tutorial shows.
If you have trouble with the installation or don't have the Mac OS discs, you can go to this blog and follow the instructions: view link cjmart.in/2006/12/01/install-x11-on- tiger-without-the-tiger-install-dvd/ You download and install 2 parts of x11 and then go to the Apple update link to update them. All the necessary links are in the blog. Then you can download and install Gimp.
You can download x11 for 10.3 at the apple site, but I haven't found a version of Gimp for 10.3. If one of you locates one, let me know!
Thank goodness, I have 10.4.11 on my secondhand laptop. When I first got through all of this, the Gimp program seemed not to want to work. However, after trying to open it and it not working a few times, all of a sudden, it started loading and it has worked since then. It's seems like a lot of trouble - but it's worth it!
