Humor in the 5th Grade
Don't we ALL say we are going to write a book "someday" about our teaching experiences. Well, we may never get around to writing that book, but we can use this venue to share classroom antics to remind each other part of what keeps us plugging away at our careers! Here's one that happened to me Thursday:
HUMOR IN OUR DAY:
"So you've shown me that you have an understanding of what text IS now raise your hand to tell me some examples of text," I stated.
"Cat......" responded Parisa with a soft voice when called on.
"Excuse me?" asked Miss Capps, still unable to discern her word.
"Cat....." she whispered again.
"Cattle?" queried I trying her hardest to hear.
"Well, no Parisa, I don't think cattle have text on them, dear."
Parker enthusiasticly raised his hand, "Well, they might if
they are branded with a whole word, Miss C!"

PSATs, King Henry, Sir Duke and Merlin
I'm exhausted. Have you ever noticed people, especially kids, get a touch crazy this time of year? (I don't know how to type in sarcasm but read the last line with just a touch). Our offices are over flowing plus the routine stuff still needs to be done. PSAT scores just came back and all of my juniors are convinced they're never getting into college anywhere!! Well no they're probably not going to Princeton but I will find them a college that works for them. Since we're without a contract we're all trying to get out on time - not always an easy trick!!
On the fun side... we have a terrific choir director who puts on an Olde English Feast with his Madrigal Choir this time every year. They decorate the halls and one of our cafeterias to look like the inside of a castle (actually they start the illusion outside the building making the entrance look like the entrance to a castle). They serve a lovely dinner with singing and theater by the madrigal who are dressed as characters such as Merlin and King Henry and Sir Duke (Ellington). It's great fun but I've never been to it before.
This year is the 25th anniversary so our director asked (last spring) for faculty volunteers to participate in the "morality play". I've always wanted to go to the dinner so this seemed like a good opportunity. It turned out three other counselors did also - so half my department is dressing up as Shakesperean women and participating in this. I get to be Lady MacBeth an evil and crazy woman - the only one carrying a weapon during the play.
Last night was the first performance. We teachers were o.k., we didn't embarrass our selves too much. The students were amazing. Their voices were so beautiful and the antics so fun. This is one of those memories I'll hold forever when I think about the high points of my teaching career. I must remember to thank our director for giving this opportunity.

Here's hoping everyone has a good week.
The Challenge . . .

Every day this month until Thanksgiving, think of one thing that you are thankful for and post it here. The longer you do it, the harder it gets! If you think you can do it, repost a reply to this message and then invite others to take the challenge. Post what YOU are thankful for today....
"Today I am thankful for..."
