Hi All

I know it has been a while but it has been a bit crazy closing out our 1st semester.YIPEE I am on break! I am off today to visit my newest grandson,he is a big 4 months old, for a few days. We will also be taking a week to go to Williamsburg Va. for a much needed vacation on Oct. 4-11. Then I am back at school for the next 9 weeks. Because of the economy(my hubby's hours were cut from full time to 16 hrs.a week) we haven't had a vacation in 3 years. We are fine there is just no extra if you know what I mean and boy do i miss going out to dinner. Well my daughter and her husband have a time share that they couldn't use since she just had a baby so you guesses my angel gave it to us. Boy will it be nice to get away and staying at a resort is great.Where can you stay for a week for under 200 dollars. We will be able to cook most of our meals and save that way but still go out a few times on our site seeing.

I took these pictures of my classes on the last day of school We did a culminating activity where we made these easy bird feeders. Since in our reading and social studies we talked about animals and there needs we talked about what birds need and in our reading book there were these directions. Have each child find a stick. I told them (and showed them)it had to be about the size of a 12 inch ruler. Then you tie a string to one end of the stick.Next you dip the other end in peanut butter.Next you dip it in bird seed. Last but not least you tie it to a tree branch. Voila we left food for the birds over break. the birds at Holt School won't go hungry.

I hope you enjoy the slide show, and have a great rest of the week.

Hi everyone

Hope all are enjoying their weekend and getting the relaxation we all need. Here is a slide show of a few of the projects we have done with our 1st graders. I thought you might get a chuckle out of them. We read a book and learned and sang a gong about oxen and how long ago farmers depended on them to help plow the fields and such. We also have been studying about all kinds of animals their habitats and how they help people. In social studies we learned about communities and cultures so we made posters of our cultures. The wheels on our posters have all the information on them and they even spin around so you can read it easier.

I thought some of you that have older kids would enjoy seeing what the younger set is up to. Please don't hold against my kids their art work after all we(the teachers) are the artistically challenged.
Happy weekend, Marsha

Funny Story

I just wanted to share something with you that happened today. We are all so busy at times and I think it is fun to share the stories that keep me going. My little angels always get me to smile no matter what kind of day it is. I hate rainy days at work but they always make it worth while. I know so of you haven't started school yet and some of you don't have little ones like I do so I thought I would share this with you.

We are learning about how animals help people. We learned that long ago oxen helped farmers plow the fields. As a project later this week we are going to make ox carts. Well I was cutting apart some oxen for the project and Doriz asked me (with a straight face) “Mrs. Danzis do oxen poop?” I said “Yes” Doriz said” YUCK” I said “Doriz don’t you poop”? She said (mind you this again was with a straight face) "OH YEAH," and she walked back to her seat!
So are you laughing???? I sure did. Kids can be a hoot!

Hope you enjoy this, Marsha

Hi everyone!

I am new to the group but have been a teaching assistant for 20 years. I just noticed this group and wondered if it was OK for a teaching assistant to join your group?

I have been back in school for 3 1/2 weeks as i work in a year round school so you can imagine my 3 week summer went very fast. I am off to write lesson plans for my guided reading groups for tomorrow. Just wanted to say HI.
