Humor in the 5th Grade
Don't we ALL say we are going to write a book "someday" about our teaching experiences. Well, we may never get around to writing that book, but we can use this venue to share classroom antics to remind each other part of what keeps us plugging away at our careers! Here's one that happened to me Thursday:
HUMOR IN OUR DAY:
"So you've shown me that you have an understanding of what text IS now raise your hand to tell me some examples of text," I stated.
"Cat......" responded Parisa with a soft voice when called on.
"Excuse me?" asked Miss Capps, still unable to discern her word.
"Cat....." she whispered again.
"Cattle?" queried I trying her hardest to hear.
"Well, no Parisa, I don't think cattle have text on them, dear."
Parker enthusiasticly raised his hand, "Well, they might if
they are branded with a whole word, Miss C!"

Happy Week-end!

Today was as productive as this week was stressful. I accomplished so much and now I'm exhausted but it's a "good" tired feeling.
Up early to communte to school. Took me 3 hours to clean up and re-organize my room after being gone 1-1/2 days with 2 different subs. Now wonder teachers drag themselves in to teach no matter what. Friday was the first sick day I've taken in over a year so I've been lucky. Sketched out my plans for the week and made some copies. Monday's schedule is on the board and I'm all set to go for one day. Good enough for now.
From there I drove straight to the supermarket (haven't been grocery shopping in weeks!) Two hours and $200 later, back home. Everything is put away and have my comfy pj's on. Life is good!
What a week.....
and it's not over yet!! Friday shouldn't be too bad, but we've a day long fundraiser that includes my basketball team playing in the AM and "working my shift" in the afternoon....yeah, a long day.....at least tonight's ballgame was moved to a different night, so I'm getting a bit of a break.
I'll be sure glad to see Sunday arrive....hope youhave a good one....TC

teachers weekend
It's teacher's convention weekend here in NJ. I'm one of those lazy sloths who never quite make it down to Atlantic City but I do appreciate the two days off to collect my thoughts.
Took a group of my seniors to a local senior citizen home yesterday to serve breakfast and socialize. They were great but it's scary how close to my age the "senior" citizens are becoming. How long until people are doing that kind of thing for me? It may be uncharitable but I'm much happier on the giving end then the receiving end of these types of activities.
Oh well next field trip is to a college fair - should be much less scary except we're taking @ 80 students. I'll be counting all day!! lol - Debbie

Chicken pox
Yesterday, I have student send home for chicken pox. The nurse was telling me that they think that the kids need to have two vacciation for the chicken poxes. All I can say is thank goodness I have them. I guess that have been 2 students so far send home. Two in the sixth grade center, where I work, and one in the seventh and eighth grade building.
School Closings
First 9 Weeks
The first 9 weeks has come and gone and I think this year will be very challenging in more ways than one. The whole 6th grade 3 teachers with 23 kiddos each and we are departmentalized (with the exception of maybe 7 to 8 out of each class), don't seem to want to learn, they are there to socilaize and the parents think their child does no wrong even when shown their child's work or lack of (which is mostly the case). I am amazed at the lack of parenting, they want to be a "friend" and teachers should just give them grades and not worry about behavior either. Can you tell I have just about had it all ready. I love teaching and the 7 or 8 in each class deserve better from the other students. Just venting, it was a tough week.
