Crackers

Hey - do any of you know how to keep crackers fresh? It seems like a crazy thing to ask but I must throw away a pick-up load of crackers a year because there is two of us here and they go stale?

I throw away so much food - like bread that goes bad and I wrap and zip-lock but nothing works...Am I cursed and don't know it??

Squeaking by is what most of us do, some of us are doing it only while we wait for our lottery numbers to come up

Another squeaker!

Well, I never thought that I would live to reach retirement, and here I am! Now what do I do? I keep working. SS is a joke, and even though I have worked hard (and in some fairly good paying jobs) all of my life, I still need a ladder to get to the bottom rung of the poverty standard. Maybe this group will give me some good advice about how I make it another 20 years or even 30 years. Hopefully by then I will be able to go home and I won't have to worry about it. Hope you don't mind if I just kind of hang around and glean some important info from all of you.

Save on USB (thumb) drives

Buy.com has a special on Kingston 4GB DataTraveler USB 2.0 Flash Drive - DTI/4GBKR. It is $24.95 if you are a google checkout first time user. The 2GB drive is listed at $4.95 and the 1 GB drive is free...again if you are a google checkout first time user

I found the initial info here view link

I currently carry one on my key chain with our medical and med info, it also has a spreadsheet with important phone numbers

I went one more step and added Portable apps including OpenOffice.org (word processor, spreadsheet, etc), Firefox (browser), Thunderbird (email) and Sudoku (I'm not smart enough to use that tho...)

Nice to have info and programs you can use where ever.

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all. I will be having dinner at our house for family, small group, 6 adults, 2 grandchildren...somewhat traditional Minnesota thanksgiving, don't ya know: turkey, bread stuffin, mashed potatoes (ok, I will sneak in some garlic), jellied cranberries, vegetable medley, cream corn casserole, relishes, our son and daughter in law are bringing the pies.

But, I digress...I hope all have a wonderful and safe holiday...be thrifty by using the leftovers...maybe check the kitchen wisdom board for leftover recipes if need by

Traveling by air

a bit off topic...call it a preventative squeaking by (prevention of loss)

On HNN, this morning, my fav red head, Robin Meade had a great idea, which, upon reflection, my wife had used when we traveled.

On your luggage tags, DO NOT PUT YOUR HOME PHONE/ADDRESS ON YOUR TAGS...instead, use your business address, a relatives or friends address or your mobile phone number...if stolen, your luggage won't lead someone to your residence while you are gone.

even more off topic...rumor has it that a car was stolen from a rural residence, but returned a couple of days later with a note stating the car was needed in an emergency, and to make up for the theft, were 2 tickets to the next football game...overjoyed, the owners went to the game, had a great time and returned home to find...that their house had been robbed...while they were away...

Enjoy your day

Solutions from bellestarr

I saw this in one of my other groups and thought you might find some money saving ideas for using things around your home to solve problems.

Pam cooking spray will dry finger nail polish

Cool whip will condition your hair in 15 minutes

Mayonnaise will KILL LICE, it will also
condition your hair

Elmer's Glue - paint on your face, allow it to
dry, peel off and see the dead skin and blackheads if any

Arthritis? WD-40 Spray and rub in, kill insect
stings too

Puffy eyes - Preparation H

Paper cut - crazy glue or chap stick (glue is
used instead of sutures at most hospitals)

Stinky feet - Jello!

Athletes feet - cornstarch

Fungus on toenails or fingernails - Vicks vapor
rub

Kool aid to clean dishwasher pipes. Just put in
the detergent section and run a cycle, it will also clean a toilet. (Wow,
and we drink this stuff)

Kool Aid can be used as a dye in paint. You can also put Kool
Aid in Dannon plain yogurt as a finger paint. Your kids will love it and it
won't hurt them if they eat it

Peanut butter - will get scratches out of CD's!
Wipe off with a coffee filter paper

Sticking bicycle chain - Pam no-stick cooking
spray, or WD-40.

Pam will also remove paint, and grease from your
hands! Keep a can in your garage for your hubby

Peanut butter will remove ink from the face of
dolls

When the doll clothes are hard to put on,
sprinkle with corn starch and watch them slide on

Heavy dandruff - pour on the vinegar!

Body paint - Crisco mixed with food coloring.
Heat the Crisco in the microwave, pour in to an empty film container and mix with the food color of your choice!

Tie Dye T-shirt - mix a solution of Kool Aid in a
container, tie a rubber band around a section of the T-shirt and soak

Preserving a newspaper clipping - large bottle of
club soda and cup of milk of magnesia, soak for 20 min. and let dry, will
last for many years!

To keep goggles and glasses from fogging, coat
with Colgate toothpaste

Wine stains, pour on the Morton salt and watch it
absorb into the salt.

To remove melted wax - Take a paper towel and iron it
over the wax stain, it will absorb into the towel.

Grease Stains - Coca Cola. It will also remove
grease stains from the driveway overnight. We know it will remove corrosion from car batteries!

Fleas in your carpet? 20 Mule Team Borax-
sprinkle and let stand for 24 hours. This will work if you get them
back again.

To keep FRESH FLOWERS longer Add a little Clorox,
or 2 Bayer aspirin, or just use 7-up instead of water.

AND THE BEST TIP OF ALL:
When you go to buy bread in the grocery store
you wonder which is the freshest, so you "squeeze" for
freshness or softness.
Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Each day has a different color twist tie.
They are:
Monday = Blue,
Tuesday = Green,
Thursday = Red
Friday = White and
Saturday = Yellow.
So, if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Friday's (almost a week old)!
The colors go alphabetically by color:
Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday.
Very easy to remember. I thought this was interesting. I looked in the grocery store and the bread wrappers DO have different twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors. You learn something new everyday!
Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.
