Hi Everyone, I need support and help

I need this group because my cholesterol is extremely high, like off the charts high.... It's always been high, due to mostly hereditary, but this time I have to blame myself. I have not used my treadmill or light weights in over a year, I have left my eating habits gone down the toilet. I have procrastinated about taking my medicine... Just smack me, I am so ashamed...
I went to the doctor today to get my test results, and I am too embarrassed to tell you what the results are... I need to lose at least 25 lbs too... I have this big box of oatmeal... but, I need more ideas on what to eat, I am NOT going to eat anymore red meat...I don't eat much pork, so thats not a big deal to eliminate that... Ok I need your help please!

Greetings

Hello from Oklahoma. Big Heart country! My husband had triple by pass surgery last June. So I'm interested learning how we both can improve our health. We take BP and cholesterol meds. Go to the gym for excerise. Take walks and try to eat healthy but it is hard to refuse that ice cream! Would like to hear your suggestions!

Sea Salt vs. Table Salt?

It's well known that a diet with high salt can lead to high blood pressure, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and even stroke. And yet we know our bodies need salt to maintain itself properly. Does anyone know if sea salt is better for us than ionized table salt? Or at least less harmful?

It's just another day

As many of you are aware, I also manage Weight Loss and Nutrition and every morning I post Food for Thought. This mornings message is on the new changes at eons and I'm posting it here as well. The sentiment is the same. This is an opportunity and a door opening.

January 30, 2008

Quote of the Day

"The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. The test of tolerance comes when we are in the majority."
~Ralph W. Sockman

We are going to shift gears this morning, flexibility is good for our bodies and our minds. Stretching brings nourishment to the cells of our muscles and hopefully, our minds.

As many of you are aware by now, eons has opened membership up to anyone over the age of 13. Many groups, I'm sure will become private as their subject matter is not appropriate for such innocence. I have no intentions of limiting our membership, ours is not a topic that is exclusive to our age. The problems surrounding weight loss and proper nutrition effect everyone.

Our focus will not change. The basics will not change. And I sincerely hope, you, the foundation of this group will not change. Remember, you have the mileage that many of our incoming new members have yet to travel. This is your chance to share your experiences and help someone else along the way. I hope you will take that chance and use it to the benefit of someone who hasn't seen as many sunrises and sunsets as you have.

We will grow, in number and in productivity. This is an opportunity for new discussions and new ideas. Please, welcome it with an open mind. I had my reservations when I saw the announcement last night, but after sleeping on it, I see it as a positive opportunity. As always, if any of you have any concerns, you can PM me. Let's work together and make this transition easy and smooth. You've faced harder challenges. This should be a breeze.

Add Cherries to your Oatmeal

I love to chomp on cherries.

Did you know that Cherries include compounds that fight inflammation associated with heart disease? They aren't just tasty, they are good for you. Unfortunately when we think of cherries we think desserts. (I think of summer) But we don't have to waste them all in sugar laden goodies. And we don't have to wait until summer. cherries are sold frozen in a bag. Add them to your fruit salads, or toss some into a green salad. Throw it into a bowl of oatmeal or cream of wheat. It is a heart healthy thing to do. So lets hear it for CHERRIES!

Diabetes & Oatmeal

I was really excited when I thought I could get into this challenge and get some help with the heart disease and diabetes that I already have. Alas, when I went to enlist into this program, they said this was not a program for diabetics. So I took a look at the recipes that they were going to give out and sure enough, way too much sugar (even with using a artificial sugar substitute. I'm really disappointed and not happy with Quaker at all. Thanks for letting me vent, Dodie

Changes

Cross-posted to all of my groups:

I found out this evening in the Managers and Moderators group that Eons has changed one of its essential policies, namely that governing the age of its participants. Bearing in mind that advertising revenue has kept this site and everything it contains free for our enjoyment, I imagine the decision was based upon the sponsors' wish to appeal to a broader demographic. That's completely understandable to me. Many members are, however, completely up in arms about it.

I'm less disturbed by the policy revision, and, unlike many of my fellow managers, have no intention of locking up any of my groups. If what we offer appeals to someone's needs, then it follows that we could benefit as well by what our newer and younger members can offer us in return. I strongly encourage all of you to keep open minds.

There has never been a means of policing the age requirement. People who didn't qualify for membership but were attracted by what we offer simply lied. I don't foresee the big changes that others seem to expect.

We've had eighteen months to set a tone on Eons. This tone is now well-established. If it resonates with like-minded people, I'm disinclined to be so rigid as to rule out the possibility of mutually rewarding connections with folks in their forties, or even younger.

The adult sites will, of course, need to lock up. But we have no more need to censor ourselves now than we ever did, with Eons' longstanding TOU safeguards in effect. And I for one am going to go on learning, and playing, and growing, and I'll go on record as welcoming anyone who chooses to join me on my journey.

Boost your oatmeal!!

I've been doing a little research and I found out if you drink a glass of OJ with your oatmeal it will double the benefits!! The phenols in oatmeal and the Vitamin C work in synergy to make our LDL more stable. A more stable LDL will not rupture and then stick to our artery walls. So I'm going to start combing the two.

Chewing the Fat, Part One

Our first month is almost at an end. We've enjoyed our new breakfast habits, and hopefully are starting to pay closer attention to what our bodies need to function well and to feel good.

Now it's time to educate ourselves, so we can really get down to business. I've decided to share what I know, to that end, and hope very much that the rest of you chip in as well.

That said, let's move to part one!

So, what's all this fuss about cholesterol, anyway?

More in the replies!

Well, there ya go, then!

In the beginning of this challenge, I varied things up. Alternate mornings, I'd have bowls of cereal with high soluble fiber content instead of oatmeal, arguing that it was less likely for me to get bored that way.

I discovered something, though. The oatmeal keeps me satisfied longer.

I've found my rhythm. I've got to add cinnamon, and I've got to add flax, I always throw half to three quarters of a cup of blueberries in there, and I always float it in vanilla soymilk. The stuff is wonderful.

The month is almost over, but I'm just starting!
