Single Florida Snowbirds

Hi Everyone
About 5 years ago, at age 55, I retired and began the process of relocating from New York City to south Florida. For various reasons(including the economy) I decided to become a snow bird. For better or worse I've found being a snow bird has it's benefits and challenges. The challenges are especially unique when you are single. As one person put it "it's difficult to develop new lasting relationships in either place". Has any one else experienced this? Are there any other single Florida snow birds here?

Hi all

Retired and living in Jacksonville, FL. Decided it's time to move further south so I'll be moving to the Lakeland/Winter Haven area sometime before summer. Can't wait for the next leg of my life to begin!! Will be great to find a wonderful place, settle down and begin doing 'retirement stuff' :-)

New Member here

Hi Everyone-
My husband and I moved to FL full time after we retired last year. We're in Palm Coast in Flagler County. We love it down here. However our home (still for sale) and our kids are up North.

Never in a million years did I think we'd retire to FL. However after a friend suggested we check out Palm Coast, we fell in love with the area. Many people from our part of the northeast but little of the hustle and bustle we left behind.

We live in a non-gated community around a golf course. Not all the neighbors are retired but the area is quiet and convenient. Publix is less than a mile away and the Atlantic Ocean is 5 miles away. That is the same distance from the ocean that we were in our former home. However the trips from the house to the ocean are SOOOOO different.

Also in our old area (the Jersey Shore) we had to pay to get onto the beach in the summer. Then once you paid as much as $10 to get onto the beaches, you had to fight the crowds to find a quiet spot to sit on the sand.

I am staying busy catching up on my reading, doing yoga, doing volunteering, attending book club meetings and playing golf. I also teach graduate school courses online.

Vero Beach, FL

Hello, we're retired and living in a small subdivision in Vero Beach, FL, on the Atlantic side, for those who never heard of it. We're in an all-ages neighborhood, gated, only 49 houses, and 6 miles from the ocean. It took us 3 years to get used to it but now we love it, so much in fact that I'm presently here in Massachusetts visiting my grandkids and I'm missing my beautiful home back in wonderful Vero Beach.

Half way

Not sure where I have left off.....

We decided that Central Florida WAS the ideal spot for us...and Mount Dora the ideal C FL location...

We bought a waterfront (actually the water is in the back- and it is man made) property in Pringles- Lakes of Mt Dora.
As of yesterday the house was being 'dry walled' and looks like a March completion...

We absolutely fell in love with the small Lake front town of Mount Dora... Definitely a place to visit if you are in/around Cen Fla...

We also fell in love with EVERYONE we mwt at our future community...and community is really about the people.

Of course almost everyone I talk to loves THE place they have chosen...so it is nice to know that there is either a place for everyone- or every place is great!

Retiring to Fl

If you haven't visited Sun City Center do so. It is a 55+, active adult community. In addition to the regular indoor and outdoor pools, tennis, golf, etc. there are also over 200 clubs you can join. They have resales, which we bought or new homes and condos for sale. And you can drive your golf cart on the roads to all the different stores around. It is about 25 minutes South of Tampa.
We just bought a 2 bedroom condo for a very reasonable price.
