POT'S PROMISING POTENTIAL

Photobucket
High Old Tokers! Medical research (much of it done outside of the US, because of our pot laws here) is discovering more and more positive applications of pot, and its attendant therapeutic cannabinoids, on all sorts of conditions. Mind, Body, and even Soul, benefit from marijuana.

I encourage all of you here to participate in the "politics of pot" via the NORML link below. Click on the link; choose your State on the upper right side; then, when you get to your "State" page, click on the link on the middle left side that says "Speak Out, Email 'XX' (your State's 2-letter abbreviation) Representatives." There you'll find any pot issues moving thru (or stagnating in!) your State congress. It'll take you less than 5 minutes to send an Action Alert E-Letter, you don't have to be dressed or get in a car, and you can toke it while you do it! We can all make a difference, collectively, via these seemingly small, individual steps!

And, H.R. 5843, an "Act to Remove Federal Penalties for Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults," introduced July 30, 2008, to Congress NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT NOW! There are 2 links below - either one will work. The 1st is to NORML's "Contact Officials" page, where you'll select "Judiciary" as your "Issue Area." The other link is to the MPP's E-Letter, very similar to NORML's except you don't have to choose an "Issue Area." PLEASE DO THIS NOW!

Welcome all new Old Tokers! (That previous sentence seems like a contradiction in terms: "new". . . "Old"!) From now on, I will post a "Welcome to OT" graphic/message to introduce each new member. As long as the subject is marijuana, feel free to post anything, including the serious, the not-so-serious, and the downright silly! If you've got questions, ask them. Let's keep each other informed AND entertained!

Stay Aware, Stay Healthy, Stay High and Peace!

America's 20th Million Pot Arrest-It Could Be You!

Photobucket
High All! On October 10th, 2008, the 20-millionth arrest for marijuana will be made - and it could be you! Click on the link below for the full story that starts with the very first "victim" of this marijuana war - Samuel R. Caldwell, arrested in 1937 by the Feds for selling 2 joints and sentenced to 4 years at Leavenworth. He died of stomach cancer before his sentence was up - he's also considered the first incarcerated "medical marijuana" patient. Included in the article is how Nixon helped ramp up this pot war, despite his own commission's findings:

"Halfway through this epoch in American history known as cannabis prohibition, Richard M. Nixon’s own handpicked Shafer Commission studied cannabis for nearly two years and concluded: No criminal penalties for adult possession of 100 grams of marijuana.

Nixon was shocked by their findings and tried to bury the Shafer Commission’s report. Nixon instead proceeded with the 'don’t try to confuse me with the facts, I’ve got my mind made up' approach to governance, and the full-scale war on cannabis commenced."

Back in the '30s, annual pot arrests were "2 per hour," and today in 2008, annual arrests amount to almost "100 PER HOUR" (99.6 per hour)! It boggles my mind! 71 YEARS OF POT PROHIBITION - will it EVER end?? Stay Aware, Stay High and Peace!

Governors Help Keep Pot Illegal

Photobucket
High All! Click on the link below for a NORML article about governors, and their continued support of pot prohibition. Within the article, itself, you'll find links to the 7 governors (states include: CA, CT, HI, MS, NH, RI, and VT), ALL REPUBLICANS, and their legislative track records on pot.

In my state, CA, the "Governator" terminated an Employment Rights bill that would have protected people from being fired just because they had a pot prescription and used medical pot. The argument for this was "to treat marijuana like other legal pharmaceutical drugs." And of course, this would've ONLY affected what are called "non-safety-sensitive jobs." But Arnold vetoed this bill, just as he's vetoed every marijuana reform bill that has come to his desk!

So, keep aware of politicians and their pot plans. Stay High and Peace!

Enlighten Others About Pot's Many Uses

Photobucket
High All! I can't stress enough that we stoners are "ambassadors for pot," both by example and by rhetoric. So, remind folks just HOW GOOD the plant is, and how we'd ALL benefit from its cultivation. Possibly even MORE relevant with the present financial meltdown. Click on the link below for some demystifying of marijuana/hemp "realities"! Stay High and Peace!

My Own Spin on "Leaves of Grass"

Photobucket
High All! Isn't this a beautiful photo? When I came across it, I said to myself, "That's a sea a grass...no, wait, it's leaves of grass." Thank you Walt Whitman! Here are a couple of quotes from his "Leaves of Grass":

"I believe a leaf of grass is no less than the journey-work of the stars,"

"And the good green grass—that delicate miracle, the ever-recurring grass."

BTW, Whitman's "Leaves of Grass" was banned for a time because it was considered "filthy and obscene"! Stay High and Peace!

Blue-Green Reminder

Photobucket
High All! Guess I don't have to remind anyone here that someplace in the cosmos, it's ALWAYS 4:20, OT being one of those places! And for those of you with scrips, don't FORGET to take your "medicine" frequently, 'cuz the more you smoke, the better you'll feel! Stay High and Peace!
