What about the Taliban / Afghanistan, et. al.

I have always been "against war" as a moral imperative... but when I see how the Taliban treats people, especially women and girls, I find it hard to disengage and say just LEAVE them to their own devices...

Then, too... not sure WAR is the way to make any changes there... probably NOT.

What do you all think about the Taliban in Afghanistan and what, if anything, we could or should do to help those who suffer under this regime?

The Cost of Being Queer...

I learned this morning that my brother, who had been on the transplant list, died Friday morning. He was buried this morning.

I learned because Christian called me to ask why I wasn't at the funeral, if money was the problem he would have gladly bought my plane ticket. He was shocked to learn that I hadn't been told, that Cindy, my brother's wife, had said that she would call me.

Anyway, I called Cindy, and asked why she hadn't called, she said that she didn't want me at the funeral, that she only tolerated "the dyke" because of her husband, and told me to never call again, the my nephews are no longer allowed to speak to me because I'm gay.

I guess, that's that.

I am angry. I am sad.

Assault in the Heartland.....

Good afternoon family, that is what I consider those of you who are in this group. When I woke up this morning it was so terribly cold in the house that I tried to snuggle back under the covers. Hubby came in and asked if I would like to go have breakfast and buy an electric heater, now that we have "real" electric in our house. So I jumped up and got dressed and we headed out. We got to the end of the driveway and decided that we would go left, since we usually went to the right. We we driving along the dirt road, across the creek, up the hill and around a corner when we noticed a pickup sideways in the road. We pulled up and tooted once to let the guy know that he was blocking the way, the guy jumped out of his truck and grabbed a tire iron and headed toward us. So we backed up. And he kept coming, so we backed up some more. The idiot with the tire iron turned back toward the truck and yelled at his buddy to bring the truck. When he did that hubby slammed the van into drive and we sped past him and he hit our van with the tire iron putting a hole in the side of the van. We got to the truck and the guy was trying to block our way so we went into the ditch to get around him, then we got on to Hwy 135 and headed north and they followed us, trying to ruam us.

Luckily I had my cell phone and called the police, About a mile down the road they turned around and headed back toward Stover. We continued on and then got a call from the County Sheriff telling us we had to come back and they wanted our statements because they had caught the two guys, and they had a gun which made the charges Armed Assaulted.

I am shaking inside and have been since this happened this morning. I can not eat, my nerves are frazzled and oh I am having a really hard time get this off my mind. What am I supposed to do???

Obama Zombie

I agree with this opinion piece about Obama's speech.

And, how dare he feed us the same crap Bush fed us.

Obama failures 1-2-3

the white house gate crashers and executive privilege from this "transparent" administration. hint..the chick in charge needs to be fired.
afganistan..we've got a time table..depending on "events on the ground"..which way is it?
the job summit. this one burns me up. he talked about business "squeezing" their operations to make more of those dreaded profits. class warfare at its best. I came out of retirement this week to come up with a way to do more with less. the issue was survival not profits. in an environment of uncertainty nobody hires. what would cap and trade do? what is the real cost of health care "reform"? these guys have no clue. and they sure as hell don't understand business. want to stimulate jobs? cut capitol gains tax.

Thirty Reindeer in my front yard!

I'm still in the DFW metroplex, but my husband was at our new home outside of Austin. Yesterday he called to say that there were at least 30 reindeer in our new front yard. REINDEER? How the hell did a herd of reindeer show up anywhere in TX?

Evidently there is a wild animal reserve nearby and one of the fences fell down due to wind and rain.

Dear Lord,

Please protect me from snakes, ostriches, and maybe reindeer.

All the best to ya,
LeAnn

BEING A TOTAL DAMN HYPOCRITE

Yesterday I found myself being a total jerk about someone. That goes against most things I believe in and goes against the way I try to project myself. So, I will admit I acted like a hypocrite and a jerk to boot.

Having said that, this type of behavior seems to be the norm now is our society, only most people don't fess up. Examples, politicians and many religious leaders. And the list is endless....do you think this type of behavior is in our DNA and that is why it is so common? What do you say?

Everyday People

I just find myself laughing out loud right now. All of my adult life I have lived around conservative people. I grew up in the South and then I married and lived all over the world but my ex worked for the Department of Defense as a civilian, so we were surrounded by conservatives. My ex was conservative, as were my parents. When I found this group, I was so thrilled...my home...so many liberals. Little did I know that we are just as opinionated and just as dogmatic as everyone else. I once read in this group by a fellow liberal who was speaking to a conservative and she said, "But, we are right and you are wrong." I thought, "Wow." At the end of the day, we all die, and it is a fact we cannot get out of....I just wonder what difference it will all make. I belong to many political and human rights organizations and I will continue to but I must say that except for hate speech, I often wonder why we get our knickers all in an uproar....and that goes for me too...I am no exception....what do you think? I know people think ...I am just curious
