Grubb to be Stewart's Crew Chief in 2009? UPDATE:
Darien Grubb, engineering manager for Hendrick Motorsports' #5 and 88 Chevys, is the lead candidate for the crew chief position for Tony Stewart's #14 Chevy in 2009, sources close to Stewart-Haas Racing told ESPN.com on Saturday. Grubb, those same sources said, has been offered a contract. Stewart-Haas officials declined to comment Saturday. If Grubb ultimately opts to accept Stewart-Haas' offer, it would add yet another layer to the Hendrick/Stewart-Haas relationship.
SHR will run Hendrick chassis and engines -- as Haas/CNC Racing currently does -- and having an established Hendrick disciple in-house would only increase the crucial line of communication between the two organizations..

New Format For Shootout
The 2009 Budweiser Shootout at Daytona will have a new format that puts more emphasis on the series’ four manufacturers – and the same star-power appeal that has become a season-opening tradition for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and its fans.
The 31st annual season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway will be held on Saturday night, Feb. 7, with a field of 24 cars representing the top teams from Chevrolet, Dodge, Ford and Toyota that will showcase the close competition in NASCAR’s premier series. That lineup will consist of the top six teams from each manufacturer, based on the final 2008 car owner points. The race distance will be increased from 70 laps to 75 (187.5 miles) on the 2.5-mile tri-oval. The race will have two segments, of 25 and 50 laps. Both green- and yellow-flag laps will count. Between segments, there will be a 10-minute pit stop at which time teams will pit and may elect to change tires, add fuel and make normal chassis adjustments. Crews will be permitted to work on cars and will be allowed to perform functions they would do on a normal pit stop in a regular NASCAR Sprint Cup event. All work must be performed on pit road or in the garage. Changing of springs, shock absorbers or rear-ends will not be permitted. Starting positions will again be determined by a blind draw, at the annual Budweiser Shootout Draw Party on Thursday night, Feb. 5, on the SPEED stage in the Midway, outside Turn 4. The Budweiser Shootout – a “non-points” event for NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitors – was first held in 1979, and originally known as the Busch Clash. Dale Earnhardt Jr. won this year’s shootout. ..

Sorenson set to join Gillett Evernham team for 2009
Sponsor and car number for driver to be announced later
STATESVILLE, N.C. -- Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced Tuesday that Reed Sorenson has signed a multi-year contract to join the team for the 2009 Sprint Cup season and beyond.
"Reed is a highly talented driver with a wealth of experience and accomplishments for a 22-year-old," said Mark McArdle, the team's vice president and managing director of competition. "We believe he has a great future ahead of him here at Gillett Evernham Motorsports. He will be a great fit with our drivers, sponsors and employees."
The native of Peachtree City, Ga., owns three wins in the Nationwide series and five top-five finishes in the Sprint Cup Series.
Before his NASCAR career began, Sorenson won championships in Legends racing and Quarter Midget racing, visited Victory Lane in ARCA, and starred in the American Speed Association (ASA) winning the rookie of the year award in 2003 at age 17.
"I'm pretty pumped up about this," said Sorenson who started racing at age 6 before winning 250 quarter midget races and 84 Legends races.
"I can't wait to get in their cars," Sorenson said. "I really believe in what they are doing with their program with all their wins and poles this year. Ray Evernham and the Gilletts are going to give us the equipment we need to go out and be a contender each weekend and eventually race for a championship."
"We will announce Reed's sponsorships and car number in the near future," said Tom Reddin, CEO of GEM. "He is a highly marketable young driver who knows how to win races, and has a long career full of promise ahead of him."
Gillett Evernham Motorsports owns 15 victories and 27 poles since it began racing full time in 2001.

What's up with Clint Bowyer ???
Has he been taking "Stupid Pills", again ??? "Michael Waltrip is the worst driver in NASCAR and I'll never know why NAPA re-signed with him???" I think he should have been sent to the "Oval Office" on that one !!!
Speaking of which, what was "Rowdy Busch" doing on the track AFTER THE RACE WAS OVER - - is he the ONLY one that's qualified to win a race these days ???
You can sure tell that we are getting close to the "Chase" and the end of the season !!! Sheeesh !!! Let's get out of the racecars and into boxing gloves and boxing ring, shall we ???
Have a relaxing Sunday, Everyone !!!
