My Story

I just joined this group, because the description jumped out at me. I have been writing songs since I was a kid, but never performed onstage until the age of 48, a few years ago. The music world, I noticed, was not exclusively for 20s and younger. Some of my favorite artists are around my age, or have fans around my age. Even at the open mikes I played at, I was usually not the oldest person there.

Unfortunately, I don't perform much these days because I never did train my voice to stay on pitch! And live music venues are sadly dropping like flies. But I remain a strong advocate of live music and the artists.

Is anyone else here a performer, or in the biz? And where do you go to listen to music (or play)?

Rediscover Music for our future generation

Each decade brings about a "new" sound, rhythm, and words to music. But, not really. Writers of songs reflect words from their very souls, bringing out what has already been written in times past. All through childhood into adulthood we are exposed to words, rhythms, sounds of music that effect the writings of new songs. We need to write songs that will impact our next generation, and I believe that means going back to many older songs, ballads, disco, and reinventing (so to speak) a new sound with or without words that incorporates all of the past music with the present music of today. Does anyone understand this kind of thinking and desire to write music in this manner?

Years of Rock,Folk,,Blues,62-72

There was just great music in all categories from the early 60's to early 70's. I was brought into it all like allot of people during the post Elvis,Beatle era. It was and still is the most fertile of creative times. I have taught my children that the social issues of the time,Vietnam, violence, civil rights, women's rights,etc...... fueled the energy to connect to the artists and the artists to the people. Without social platforms music is very shallow. There are many views on this from the beginning of recorded writings. A time to share feelings on the past, today, and our expectations for the future. One last comment is that I feel we should really start using music again to help us evolve into a better society and more goodness to share together.

Any Jazz Lovers Out There?

I would like to start a group or join a group that would like to talk about jazz. I play the piano/keyboard and I have studied just for many years. I don't play jazz as well as I would like but I am working on it. I have plenty of jazz instruction material to use and plenty of recordings to listen to. My least favorite kind of jazz is Dixie. I really like John Coltrane, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck, Clifford Brown, etc. I'm not crazy about Big Band jazz but I do like Duke Ellington, because he was an all around musican and not just a band leader. I have a CD of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane.
I don't have a computer and Internet service yet, so I can't response right away. I'm using my public libraries computer. Just give me time please.
Thank you
