It is so very good to have all of you join us as we take a stroll down the familiar path of life, known as "MEMORY LANE". We all have fond memories of 'back in the day', the fun things we remember when life was simpler! Don't be shy; you are among friends; please share any memories that are dear to you and you believe we would enjoy hearing and relate to. Pictures and videos are encouraged, as well. So, join in and be sure to share a little about yourself, under 'Getting to Know You'!
A flash of memory this AM, and wondering if any of you remember this. Use to love to watch my Dad shave. At some point, in the late 50's or early 60's, a newfangled razor blade came out. You could use it multiple times (like a week or more) before it had to be thrown out. I flashed on a memory of my Dad, next door neighbor Tom, Uncle Mart, and Uncle Phil sitting on our porch discussing and trying to beat each other with stories of how long their new razor blade had lasted. What I remember as being so funny, was that as each boasted about 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 25 days of use, I noticed that all of them had nicks and cuts, and scratches on their faces. I also vaguely remember Dad "sharpening-?" his safety blades, around the inside of a glass. As a girl, I didn't take much heed of all of the shaving gizmo's, remember seeing him shave with a straight blade, and having a razor strap, and even after he switched to a safety razor he never gave up his shaving brush and cup.
The Old Carnival Rides subject reminded me of the midway games that could take your money. The prizes looked great, but I never won one of those big stuffed animals for my girlfriend.
I'll start off with:
Sharp Shooting. The game I recall was one where you got three shots at close range with a .22 rifle trying to shoot out a red spot on a card....almost impossible.
When I was a child I remember the sound of the wood screen door closing - people didn't have any kind of automatic closer on these doors, they just kind of slammed shut. I miss that sound. Then there is the sound of the rain drops in the summer - today many of us have central air conditioning, the windows are shut and the sound of the air conditioners drown out the sound of the rain. Miss that too.
Name something that is white: anything at all, from any time of the year.... just as long as it is white! Look around you... what do you see; close your eyes and imagine!
