Welcome to the group!

Hello Eons! I live in Miami, Florida and am passionate about working with the community here on Eons in the area of medication safety. Professionally, I am a pharmacist and work for University of Miami - Humana Health Services Research Center. All throughout my career, I have worked in numerous areas for patient safety advocacy and promoting policies for a better healthcare system for us all.

I strive to contribute my share to making a better healthcare system - one that will be not only affordable and accessible, but also safe. Bring your stories, your tips, questions and dilemmas. I look forward to talking with you in this group.

How do I dispose of old meds

I just had about 16 bottles of outdated prescriptions and I'm not about to say how I disposed of them but for future reference and a guilty conscience I would like to know the best way to dispose of prescription pills without doing harm to the environment or to animals or humans.

I could do a search but I would like for others to see the answer to this as well.

mixing meds

I,m wondering what the longterm side effects of taking Lortab 7.5 and Rozerom, a sleeper would cause. I usually only take half the Lortab at night with the sleeper.

Long term side affects

I'm wondering what the long term side affects could be of taking Tylenol #3 and Lorazepam together. I don't take them everyday and not always together but have been taking them both for about 10 years or maybe longer.

Hello everyone

Hey there...and there....and there.

I just joined up and post mostly jokes I get in email to my blog so if you want to read some funnies take a peak.

My doc just gave me a script for Paxil CR and after reading the warnings that came with it I am afriad to take any. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on it?? It's a 12.5 dose and in the past I had HORRIBLE reactions to Citalopram and Zoloft.

Thanks for your advice!!

psychopharmacologist is:

A psychopharmacologist is something that is rare and usually is someone who works in a lab, not with people. What you really want is a psychiatrist who has studied the psychopharmacology, which most of us have. The newer meds are very familiar to myself and newer docs. The older a doc is, the more time it has been since he or she has studied the drug interactions. I imagine I, too, will eventually be passed over by the younger whippersnappers. Nonetheless, I don't recommend a Psychopharmacologist, but rather a psychiatrist who is familiar with the meds. Oh, and Prozac Poop Out is a known phenomena and all psychiatrists should be familiar with it.
Daughter is psychiatrist...I asked her what this was. Here is her answer.

Zocor

I started taking this drug about 4 months ago. It gives me an upset stomach and makes my joints hurt. I tried to cut it down to 1 every other day but no change. I was wondering if there has been anyone else who has had a problem with it.

Prozac Withdrawal

I was put on prozac about 14 years ago after being diagnosed with several different illness, (depression, anxiety, depression with anxiety, bi-polar, AADD and the list goes on. At first the prozac was like a wonder drug, I funtioned better than I had since I was a teenager. I ran a marathon, finished my degree in Human Services Administration, and recieved promotion after promotion at the place I was working. I was finally promoted to the second in command postion.

About two years ago I noticed that the prozac was no longer working and I was becoming a pretty miserable person. This continued until about 6 months ago when my husband and Dr. suggested I see a psychiatrist, I hadn't seen one in many many years. The first thing the psychiatrist said was to get off of the prozac. He said I had been on it for way too long and it was only doing damage to me at this point.

I got off the prozac and did it the smart way, very slow. That was two months ago and I think I am still having withdrawal symtoms, (sweating, cold, crying spells, electric jolts in my head, dizzyness and feeling like I am loosing my balance.)

Has anyone had this experience? Getting off prozac? Withdrawal?

Please let me know
